Sometimes, I think about what would happen if people did what they wanted to do, fearless of repercussion. Punishment for actions no longer exists, a world where the consequence of freedom is nothing more than a foolish conspiracy. I sit in thought, wondering if people would be happier— and if they would be less judgmental to others actions. Late night adventures, doing what you want with who you love, freedom in the palm of your hand without the wretched gut-reaction to the idea of upsetting other people. As much as I wish that was the world we live in, it isn't. We do things that we want to do so long as they do not impede on the contentment of others. Responsibility, understanding other's feelings is built into our mechanical brains as we grow, and so we think twice before the decisions we make. We think until the gears in our brains rust, our stomach in pits and our actions become cautious. I wonder what would happen if we could be free without being chastised for our every move— but responsibility demands sacrifice, and we sacrifice our privilege for our image.
