A void surrounds me. Only a glimmer of light shines through giving me enough to try to make out my surroundings. I'm afraid to move, paralyzed in fear of what will become of me. I feel a hand snake around my neck as it slowly starts to cut off my breathing. A distorted low pitched voice echoes in the void.
"You can't escape me. You're mine foolish mortal. You'll never escape me even if you try. I always find a way to get you." I struggle to move myself away from this thing, but the pressure on my neck gets tighter. My head gets dizzy until more light cuts through. My eyes squeeze shut as I listen to what's happening.
"No....No...NO! Why must you always ruin this!" The weight of the hand dissipates from my neck and I open my eyes to see the void getting destroyed by the shining light. A voice that sounds familiar comes through. I can't make out anything.
I wake up gasping, as my hands instinctively move to my neck. I pant as I look around to see that I'm back in the real world. not there. I calm my breathing for a bit before I look around for my clock to check the time. 3 am. I stand up groggily heading out of my room to walk downstairs. I walk into the living room seeing my cat Wilford curled up on the couch asleep. I carefully sit next to him trying my best not to disturb the poor kitty. Once I'm seated comfily I check to see if Wilford is still asleep. I slouch against the couch resting my head on the cushion. Thank god my roommates are out of town for the weekend, don't get me wrong. I love my roommates, but when I have dreams like the one I had a few minutes ago. I'd rather try to calm down, so I don't disturb them. It's pretty hard since they're both night people. One stays up later than the other usually, but there are times I can't sit on the couch nor the backyard in peace. I know they care and I've discussed my dreams with them before, but there are times I like to keep it to myself. I don't want to make them worry more than they already do.
Dreams aren't something that come naturally to me. It's oblivion and then by the time I wake up it's time to start the day. They all started after I graduated high school. I rarely have them, but when I do they seem nightmare-ish. There are times I have calming dreams....if that's what you call the ones that aren't fueled from hell. One thing I notice is that I get saved from this guy every time I have a nightmare or even a dream that starts out normal. I haven't gotten a good look at his face or when I do it's just a blur, but I can kind of remember his voice. It's deep and soothing in a way, it could put me in a trance easily.
I have one more year of college and then I'll be able to get my degree. I'm a film major. I decided on film because I've always been fascinated with movies and shows since I was a child. To me movies and shows were like the dreams I wish I could have.....Sometimes.... I'm not a big fan of horror movies, even though I'm desensitized to it....I just don't find them interesting to watch, especially since my dreams can become one.
I didn't realize my eyes were closed until I felt something soft brush up against my arm, when I opened them to look over at what the sensation could be. My heart warms as Wilford curls up against the side of my lap. I instinctively move my arm around him so he can get comfy and shake my head lightly trying not to fall back asleep. This was the first time the mysterious guy wasn't there to save me from a nightmare....I mean he hasn't saved me, but he makes the nightmares less fearful. I feel safe whenever he shows up because then I don't have to go through it alone....Even if he's not real and just a figment my mind made up to comfort myself, I still appreciate him.
My hand carefully reaches for the remote to turn the TV on and lean back into the warmth radiating off of Wilford. I put on some youtube since we barely watch cable anyways and turn on the first video that is recommended to me. I feel my eyes start to close slowly as the talking becomes background noise. I feel the darkness welcome me back and hear a familiar voice right beside my ear.
"Hey (y/n)."
