Steven, my step dad, grabbed my wrist right after I just left the classroom. It was like he knew I was done.
“What the—“, Steven cut me off, which was fine, because I was about to say something my mother would kick me out of the house for.
“Come with me,” he said with a determined look on his face.
“No! Stop keeping secrets from me and my mom!” I was frustrated.
“I’m not keeping any secrets from you, Christiana,” he said, quick and fast like he was in a hurry. Okay, Steven is not the most ‘pretty’ guy in the world. He has black hair, brown eyes, tall, and gaining a little too much weight. I was about to say something, but then he said, “I’ll explain everything when you get in the car,” now he looked worried.
“Fine, but I get to ask the questions,” I said without hesitation. We literally ran across the parking lot and got in a SUV. While Steven got in the driver’s seat, I got in the back. There was a girl, she was in her mid twenties, she was pale as a white sheet, and she was utterly gorgeous. But that wasn't my first concern. “Why are you cheating on mom?”
He laughed, “I’m not cheating on her.” Yeah, whatever.
“Then why do I always hear you talking on the phone with this girl named ‘Katie’, and you always want to please her,” anger was rising in me.
“Christiana meet Katie, Katie meet Christiana.” I gasped, trying to keep it all in.
“Don’t worry, I’m not doing anything with her,” he said with a smile. All I could do is nod. “Christiana,” he said with worry in his voice, “we need your help, and we need you to believe us.”
I nodded slowly.
“We are vampires, we need your help, but we’re really going to have to turn to you for help. Katie is our protector, sort of like our president, and I need you to trust us,” he said it like he was saving the world.
I couldn't move, I just sat there while he was driving into the woods. I knew there were secrets.
