Chapter 24

Severus wasn't sure how to change the Dark Lord's mind. He wasn't even sure if he could go see him without being called. He decided to go and talk to Albus. He went to his office, said the password, and ascended the stairs. He knocked on the door.

Albus hearing the stairs ascend he had his wand ready to open the door. When he heard Severus knock, he flicked his wand and opened the door. Without even looking up Albus closed the door and said,

"Have a seat Severus!" Severus sat down and he looked at Albus and said,

"Where did I propose to Minvera?" Albus put down his quill and said,

"You planned a romantic picnic for her down at the Black Lake. You told her she was the most beautiful girl in the whole world. You said that she loved you for you and didn't care about your alliances and she said, she loved you too. You then pulled the ring box out of your left pocket, opened it and asked her to marry you. She obviously said yes!" Severus nodded and said,

"Okay that was too much detail, but you are in fact Albus. So, we just got back from our first meeting of the year and as you already know Draco was in attendance, well he has been given a task and that is to kill you. He is beside himself and he doesn't want to do it." Albus was silent for a moment then said,

"Well do you think when the time comes that he will be able to go through with it?" Severus shook his head,

"No, he won't!" Albus looks at Severus and said,

"Then promise me that when the time comes that you will do it." Severus looked at Albus with a dumbfounded look and said,

"Sir with all due respect I..." Albus interrupted him saying,

"Severus you said so yourself that Draco won't be able to go through with killing me. This is why you must be the one to do it. Please promise me that you will do it." Severus sighed, nodded, and said,

"Okay I will be the one to do it." Severus left and walked back to his office. Draco looked back as he heard the door open. He looked at his godfather and said,

"Did you talk to him?" Severus sat down on the couch next to Draco and said,

"I talked to Dumbledore. I didn't talk to the Dark Lord. Here is the plan, you are going to act like you are going to kill him and then at the last second with your wand raised in the air you are going to hesitate. Then I will step forward and actually kill him. This way the task gets done but you won't have to live with his death on your conscious How does that sound?" Draco thought for a moment then said,

"I guess that works. So, I play along and then at the last second, I freeze and you step up and kill him. I can do that!" Draco hugged Severus and walked back to his dorm. On the way he bumped into Ginny.

"Hey, I was coming to find you to walk with you to breakfast. Are you okay?" Ginny placed her hand on his shoulder. Draco sighed and said,

"I had somewhere I had to be this morning and it wasn't enjoyable." He tapped his left forearm. Ginny nodded, hugged him, and said,

"I am so sorry. How about you grab your school stuff, and we get some breakfast." Draco hugged her back and took her hand. The two of them walked to the Slytherin common room. Ginny stayed outside with Draco went into grab his stuff. He walked back out and took Ginny's hand again. The two of them then walked to the Great Hall.

The school year flew by with Harry and Hermione spending most of their free time researching Horcruxes. Harry had less free time than Hermione between classes, quidditch practice, and Occlumency lesson with Snape. They didn't have much luck. One day Hermione found a book that had some interesting information. They read and found out that any object can be a horcrux and in rare cases even a person.
