A/N: Hello everyone! I am so sorry I have been gone for so long. I'm about to graduate and life got super hectic with personal life things! Hopefully there should be some more consistent uploads of future chapters! Also!!! I made a playlist for Compulsive ( https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2R1CyyhGQonY3GoXRccsp4?si=mu6t_GppR3iFBAaMEKCIyQ ) if you want to give it a listen! I will update every so often with new songs I find that fit! :>
The ending of a shift was always the best feeling in the world, not having to think about customers and not having to think about the different orders of coffee with their combinations? Even better. It took a load off of the brain and gave you a chance to focus on other things... things like that mysterious stranger from earlier. Even four hours later, that stupid fluffy brown hair was still lingering in your psyche and it made you question why. Maybe it was because no one had ever done such a kind thing for you in your time working in customer service. Hell, you had never seen any customer stick up for an employee in this line of business in your entire life. It just was not common at all, hell, you would put more money on your chances of winning the lottery over the chances of whatever happened earlier that day ever happening to you again in the next million years. That was how uncommon it was. You knew for a fact that you probably would have ended up in some 'epic funny barista getting pwned by angry customer' video, and not a video on a site like YouTube either, knowing your luck, it would be in the worst grouping of videos ever-- Facebook videos. Being subjected to the off-brand Facebook laughing emojis and odd comments from old people who really are not supposed to be online at their age (the blue screen is bad on fragile eyes).
"Remind me to never work on Saturdays ever again, especially not afternoon shifts," you groaned out, leaning over the counter and getting on your tippy toes, trying to stretch your sore feet out. You smelled like coffee grounds and there were some faint, sticky stains on your apron from the flavor swirls for the drinks, making you smell like an arguably pretty damn good snack from the mixture of French vanilla and caramel all over you.
"Awww come on, [Y/N]! Y'know having a shift with me and Brian makes having work Saturdays not all that bad~!" Toby said as he leaned over the counter beside you. Toby was probably just as equally messy as you were, if not even more. His Tourette's sometimes caused him to spill coffee, but most were understanding and did not mind. Plus, Toby was always sweet enough to clean up after his twitches, even though you always tried to tell him that you would get the mess cleaned up for him. You felt the corners of your lips tug up into a smile and a small laugh left your mouth at your co-worker's dorky antics.
"I suppose you're right, but still... Especially with what happened earlier with that man, it makes working here feel kind of... I don't know how to say it without it sounding bad, but it feels kind of dehumanizing to work here when people do those kinds of things to you. I am a human, even when I put on the apron, I'm not some kind of lesser person just because I hand you your coffee after I make it," you lamented, pushing yourself off of the counter as you sighed loudly.
"You know people like that man earlier don't come around that often," Toby said, sitting up off of the counter as he placed a gentle hand on your arm. He gave you a reassuring smile and wiggled his hand against your arm, not liking seeing you so down in the dumps because of the dickwad from earlier. "Pluuuuuuuus, you did get saved by your own personal prince charming~" he teased, winking at you.
"TOBY-!" you exclaimed, your face immediately heating up as your hands balled up into fists and started to hit against his bicep. "You are so mean to me," you pouted, "plus he was just being nice to me. If you were in his position I'm sure you would have done the same for me." The look Toby was giving you begged to differ on your excuse.
