Normal Girl

Chapter 1

I lay in bed, the pitter patter of the rain lulling me to yet another nightmare.

I sighed.

Swinging my feet over the edge of my bed I tip-toed to the window.

My feet stay on tip toes.

My nose presses against the cold glass of my window. My nightgown swishes against my skin.

The rain is so addicting. It's sound. It's power.

The overwhelming urge to dance in it takes over me.

I open the window and hop onto the wet earth.

Rain fall on me. My nightgown plasters to my body.

I raise my arms. Then let them fall. My body moves to the beat of the rain. Soon I'm twirling, leaping, running.

Moments like those I cherish. It's the moments I get to be a normal girl.

Mother will be awake soon. I should get back inside. But I can't. My body won't stop moving. My hips won't stop swaying. My soul won't stop singing.

"Lily-Mays Thorn!" Someone shouts.

I shut down.

I raise my head to Mother, glaring at me.

"Mother I-"

"Inside. Now!" She barks.

I drag my bare feet across the sodden earth. 

The rain beats harder. 25 meters away is the house.

"Hurry." Mother urges, her urgency clears.

I break into a run.

Thunder rumbles across the dark sky.

"Be happy!" Mother screams

I try to lift my emotions. Be happy. 

Lighting strikes a few inches behind me.

Then it strikes me.

"LILY-MAYS!" Mother screams

How am I not gone?

I un-shield my eyes.

Around me is a dome of clear, yellow electricity.

I stare, speechless. 

Mother cowers at the door.

"Lily-Mays Thorn. Come inside RIGHT NOW!" She screams.

I hurry out of the weird dome-shape thing.

The weather stopped being weird. I should probably stop being weird too...
