Chapter 9: Russian Code

A year later, it was summer time and the year 1985. Steve has gotten a job at Starcourt Mall meaning Daphne was stuck with him in going everywhere, she would still play with Will and was named the Striker of the party. Daphne's hair was finally up to her shoulders, her hair was wavy.

"Hey dingus your children are here!" Robin announced

Daphne and Robin got along quickly and would tease Steve whenever they could, Robin also offered to help teach Daphne how to read and speak better.

"Again? Seriously?" Steve groaned

Daphne was reading a book Robin gave her to read, the door opened to the back and watched as the party passed, Will waved at her with a smile which she did the same in return. Dustin had gone to camp so Steve would be bored without him.

"Hey if anyone hears about this-" Steve began

"We're dead!" The kids finished for him

Daphne giggled, Steve was forced to work in the front.

"Busy today?" Daphne asked

"You wouldn't believe it. Today was the hottest day of the summer, we were slammed!" Robin beamed as she threw her arms in the air.

"Do you think I could get a cup of rocky road?" Daphne asked

Robin nodded and opened the window

"Hey dingus, your child here wants her favorite please" Robin announced

Robin handed Daphne her ice cream, a while after the lights went out.

"I didn't do it! I promise!" Daphne spoke

Daphne walked to the front, where Steve was flicking the light switch.

"That isn't going to work dingus" Robin said

"Oh yeah?" Steve asked

They watched as he began to flick the switch even faster now, Robin rolled her eyes, suddenly the power came back on

"Let there be light!" Steve said

Hours later, it was closing time.

"Bye Robbie!" Daphne waved

The next day, it was the same routine. Daphne and Robin were in the back, hearing as Steve tried flirting with girls. Soon enough, Steve switched with Robin making Daphne and Steve play Rock Paper Scissors.

"Hi" Someone said

"Hi" Robin replied

"I'm Dustin" He said

Daphne and Steve perked up, smiles were on their faces.

"I'm Robin" She replied

"Is he here?" Dustin asked

"Is who here?" Robin asked

"Henderson!" Steve cheered

"Dustin!" Daphne beamed

"He's back!" They said

"You got the job!" Dustin cheered

"I got the job!" Steve beamed

Daphne hugged him then watched Steve and Dustin do their handshake.

"How many children are you friends with?" Robin asked

Daphne giggled, Steve made Dustin a sundae while Robin handed Daphne her ice cream

"Thanks Robbie" Daphne smiled

"Anytime Daph" Robin replied

Daphne went to sit down with the boys.

"Hold on. You got a girlfriend?!" Steve exclaimed

"Yep! She even says that kissing is better without teeth!" He smiled

"Wow- thats ro- thats kinda romantic" Steve said

"So you can just eat as much as you want of this every day?" Dustin asked

"She can, it's not a good idea for me since I have to keep in shape for the ladies" Steve shrugged

"Yeah? And how's that going for you?" Robin jumped in front the other side of the store

Daphne giggled

"Ignore her" Steve said

"She's cool" Dustin said

"She is!" Daphne beamed

"She isn't" Steve added

Daphne frowned at him

"So where are the other knuckleheads?" Steve asked

"They ditched me" Dustin replied

Daphne started choking on her ice cream, Steve patted her back.

"What?!" The two exclaimed

"I know right! They're gonna regret it though, when they don't get to share my glory" Dustin smirked

"What glory?" Steve asked

"So last night I was trying to get in contact with Suzie but.." Dustin said, mumbling the last part.

"Huh?" Daphne asked

Dustin mumbled it again

"Dude just speak louder!" Steve exclaimed

"I INTERCEPTED A SECRET RUSSIAN COMMUNICATION" Dustin blurred out, loud enough that everyone turned around to look at them.

Daphne glared at them

"Turn around" Daphne demanded

They all did, their eyes glowing white then back to normal, she wiped her nosebleed and went back to the conversation.

"It means, we could be heroes, true American heroes" Dustin explained

"American heroes?" Steve asked

"Yes, you can get all the hair products you want and more, and Daphne can get all the fruit snacks she wants" Dustin explained

"More. I like more" Steve said

"Fruit snacks" Daphne added

"What's the cost?" Steve asked

"Nothing. I just need your help" Dustin shrugged

"With what?" Daphne asked

Dustin pulled out a book and placed it on the table

"Translation" Dustin announced

The two were in the back room while Robin was serving ice cream and had Daphne hand them the ice scream and hand Robin the cash. Robin barged into the back room while Daphne was serving a random lady.

"Chocolate ice scream, two dollars please" Daphne said

The lady handed her five dollars, which Daphne returned three to her. Daphne was getting better in math thanks to Robin. After the lady left, Daphne felt a strange feeling in her, remembering how Steve was when he saw Nancy with someone else and compared it to how she feels now knowing Dustin has a girlfriend, that's when she asked herself: Does she like Dustin?
