Chapter 1

The mid-afternoon always seemed to stall your usual work ethic. Rather than continuing to file paperwork or look over the student files and incident reports the littered your desk, you'd often find yourself looking out the window. The views of campus were always pretty, no matter what time of year it was, and today was no expectation. Despite the fall chill that was slowly starting to turn into winter's bite, the sun managed to shine today.

A few students wandered back and forth from the main building to the dorms, no doubt fetching items for their afternoon classes or eating lunch in their dorms rather than the ever noisy cafeteria. You were a few stories up above those students, making it so their conversations were lost to you, but just from how they walked, you could tell how each was feeling.

It seemed today was a good day. Everyone looked to be in good spirits, despite the hell this year had brought upon the student body of Yuuei Academy. This year had even been hard on the teaching staff as well, so you had been busy.

But then again, it wasn't like you were not usually busy. As one of the few counselors and on-campus therapists, you often had to deal with the daily emotions and angst that came from your students. The causes of such high emotions were long: tests, performance, friends, peers, confidence, grades... the list went on and on.

But lucky for your students, you were always prepared to do what you needed to do to help them. You had been trained for years in college on how to properly offer therapy, and proudly earned yourself a Ph.D. Not to mention your quirk that allowed you to offer emotional control. Your ability lets you help ease your students and help them think rationally through their problems, but the downside was that it left you often feeling like a gray blob afterward. Much like today...

So when afternoons like today came around, where you had no appointments until later and when you were supposed to be doing your grueling paperwork... often left you to daydream and stare out the window.

A moment to relax and let your mind wander never did too much harm, aside from having to quickly fill out the papers on your desk. But today, it seemed you just couldn't focus on your own work. The previous day's appointments had left you feeling drained.

Maybe it was the unconscious guilt that the teens who came to see you were already stressed out and having to grow up sooner than they should... or maybe it was the quirk you had been long used to dealing with. Either way, it wasn't unusual for you to feel so empty and tired on a constant basis, but today was a very bad one. You had barely touched your work and even barely spoken a word to the usual staff friends who would greet you each morning and invite you to eat lunch with them.

Even so, you knew that you couldn't wallow in your mindset. Your quirk may allow you to help ease and calm the emotions of others, but it couldn't for yourself. Thus, you needed to push past your nagging thoughts and get back to work!

After all, it wasn't just the students who were relying on you for moral and emotional support! You also had a club to run after classes ended! The end of the day was coming and you needed to find that motivation!

So with a quick gulp of coffee, a few gentle slaps to your cheeks, and an internal pep talk that hopefully would get your butt into gear, you turned to the paperwork and inhaled sharply. Time to get started... and time to do what you did best!

You had no idea how you did it, but five minutes before the final bell, you had finished the last sheet of paper. The pile was a little messy and wore matching messy handwriting in slightly smudged black ink, but it was done!
