"Upstairs." Joanne said, through gritted teeth. "Now."
The door shut gently and Joanne placed herself right on top of her bed as soon as Cory was seated. "What was that just now?"
"I didn’t think-"
"Cory you have to stop doing this. I can’t believe you just said that to my little sister, are you frickin' kidding me? You know how hard things are gonna get for me if mom knows I have a – fake boyfriend?"
Cory rested his back against the chair, surveying her turquoise green room, it was well decorated. "So what? It’s just as you said, all of this is fake. Why are you so worried, I never took you to be a mommy’s girl."
Cory was being unbelievable right now, it didn’t matter it was fake or not, the title was what had the string of importance – boyfriend. However, she knew arguing with him was a lost cause and out of it, no matter how much she’d argue, with Cory the result was always the same. "You are nothing but a pain in the ass."
Laughter erupted in the room, "I didn’t know you knew how to cuss, guess Snow White isn’t as boring as she seems."
Cussing makes me interesting, Joanne looked at Cory. Stupid.
"So Joanne."
She nodded.
"Joanne Gyles. Who the hell are you?"
The question no doubt caught her off guard. "Huh?"
"Don’t even try to play dumb with me." Cory moved the chair all the way to where she sat, placing it down and reeling in it. The atmosphere had changed from what it was seconds ago, right now it felt as if Joanne was being interrogated. "Who are you, Snow White?"
Joanne chuckled nervously. "Why are you being all serious and stuff, it doesn’t suit you."
"I leave it to you to notice these things," Cory said, leaning over his chair. "Now tell me more about yourself."
Joanne thought about it for a while, for some reason the thought of Cory getting to know her made her blush, her life wasn’t really that interesting. "I'm really not that fun, I watch anime, read books and I’d rather sit at home than go to any party."
"And you’re moody too." Cory noted, standing up to move around and observed the room. "I remember the first day we met, boy was I glad when you finally left."
"Ouch," Joanne feigned sadness. "Don’t go telling people that."
"It's what I noticed." He shrugged. Cory paused in front of the picture on her drawer, he turned to face her. "Don’t you have any–"
"Friends?" Joanne completed his question unamused, she continued. "I had one but she got kidnapped by a crazy psychopath that’s now using her to make me comply to his demands."
The corners of Cory’s mouth tightened into a grimace, she couldn’t possibly be referring to that diary as her friend now could she? "You, have a serious problem."
Joanne only hummed as she laid her back against the wall, observing Cory’s features carefully again, he was looking quite handsome today, he had removed his suit and necktie so only a white shirt was left on his torso, his green eyes bored into her, Joanne hadn’t realized she was staring at him.
"So... how’s the project going?"
"Well it’s as good as it can get, you know – doing it all by myself."
Cory groaned, resuming his position on the chair. "Not this again."
Joanne scowled at him, glancing at her phone for the time. "Hey, shouldn’t you be going home by now? It’s getting late."
"Yeah, the designated driver should be here any minute." Cory said as he squinted his eyes, tip toeing over the window to get a larger view of the road. "He’s here," he said in relief. "I guess that’s goodbye, awn now I’m sad, don’t miss me too much."
Like I would ever.
"Goodnight shiruyaki."
What in the name of Zeus did Cory just call her? "What-" she never got to finish her question, Cory had already shut the door, hopped down the stairs, into his car and drove away.
"Goodnight."
"Mom isn’t coming tonight, don’t worry too much." Joanne turned around swiftly only to have Chloe sticking her head through the door come into sight. "Was he saying the truth? About you guys – dating."
Joanne nodded. "Yes."
Chloe shrieked as she pounced on her sister. "Oh my god! Look at you being all sneaky and stuff, boyfriend? I didn’t even know you had a friend. I knew something was fishy the first time he came here, and double bonus for you, he’s quite a catch."
Looking pitifully at her sister, Joanne wanted to smack some sense into her but if she was going to go with the whole pretend girlfriend charade, she may as well make it as believable as possible. "I know right? I miss him so much already." Joanne gagged internally as she said these words, if anything she was glad he was gone.
"Well I’ll give you some space now then, food’s in the kitchen if you want any."
"Thanks," Chloe shut the door behind her as she leaped off to her room.
Joanne heaved a sigh of relief, kicking off her clothes, she had a short bath, wore her pajamas and returned to her bed with her phone in hand. Joanne looked at her screen as it beamed with message notifications, apparently she had been added to a group by someone with the name – Coco pops, it made her giggle, who in the world would use such a ridiculous name? but of course, it was none other than Cory.
"Wassup Snow White?"
"Who the hell is making noise by this time of the night?" – Sunflower
"Calm your tits down Mandy, I was only saying hello to our newest member, say hi guys."
"Hi guys," – techboy019
Joanne giggled, she guessed that would be Subomi.
"Would you guys stop arguing? Hi Joanne." – JD
Jordan.
"Who are Snow White and Joanne? And why are Cory and Amanda fighting for the umpteenth time this week?" – Sherlock.
This person, Joanne didn't know.
"Jim bro, what is up! Snow white here is our newest member Joanne, my girlfriend." – coco pops
"Your what now?"
Joanne sighed, this would be a long night.
