Epiphany ~ Chapter 40.

Start from the beginning

"Maybe we should all go and come back." Kai suggested,

"Shouldn't you go back to work?" Naomi raised an eyebrow at him,

"I should, but after what we just did, no can do; let's go guys." Kai turned on his heel to walk out and the others followed suit bidding their goodbyes,

"I'll let you know if anything happens." Guren announced before turning to the receptionist, "What's happening with Y/N?" He nervously, stuffed his hands in his pockets,

She indicated for him to follow her, "As far as we're concerned she's gone into theatre but they're checking the condition of the baby." She took him to the waiting area for the operating theatres,

"I see, so you don't know how they are?"

"I'm afraid not," she came to a stop as they shortly arrived, "I'll let them know you're here, in the meantime you'll have to wait until someone gets you when they're ready." She bowed before scurrying off to inform the doctors of his arrival,

Guren nodded taking a seat, it was going to be a long day. He was also very tired, considering how he too had his ass handed to him but he was unable to fall asleep at a time like this, his concern for Y/N and their child wouldn't allow him to.

After a while of waiting, Adora entered the waiting room, her eyes landing on Guren, she walked up to him and took a seat next to the impatient man,

"How are they?" Were his first words,

She sighed, slumping down the chair as she delivered the news,

"The baby is thankfully okay."

Those were words Guren wasn't expecting at all but it was too early for him to celebrate, "And Y/N?"

"She could be better, we're going to do an x-ray to see if she has any broken bones which haven't been healed by her demon, other than that she's still unconscious but she will be okay." She clapped her hand on his shoulder, "On the flip side how are you? You also got beat up pretty bad."

"I'll be fine, my demon will take care of it," he yawned,

"Don't you want a bed to sleep on at least?" She shot him a skeptical look,

"I don't think I can sleep at the moment, if I'm completely honest,"

Adora just gave him a slightly annoyed look, "Suit yourself, she's on her way to get the x-ray, I'll come and get you when she's in her room." She waved,

Guren rolled his eyes, "Yeah, yeah, hurry up,"

She switched from waving to a middle finger in response making him scoff.

Guren had texted Kai the situation, getting a thumbs up and party popper emoji in response.

Even though he was joking, Y/N's X-ray was quicker than he thought and soon enough he was able to see her again. He could see the remains of the few bruises across her face but she was still perfect regardless.

Adora soon enough came back,

"Back already? I didn't expect you to actually hurry up."

"I've got a surprise for you."

"And what could that be?" He looked up at her, unamused,

"The X-ray results."

"Very exciting." He responded, sarcastically,

"Right?" She took a seat on another chair, "She has a crack on one of her ribs, the X-ray showed it was worse initially so it's likely that her demon has healed most of it."

"That doesn't seem ideal."

"It isn't, especially when you're pregnant, she's going to be pretty uncomfortable until it heals, but considering how much her demon has already healed she'll probably be fully recovered by tomorrow." She sighed, "If she wakes up today, she'd be better off sitting up or lying at a similar angle she is now; letting gravity do it's job will keep pressure of the area."

Guren nodded,

"If that's all I'm going on my break!" Adora yawned, standing up,

"You should take some extra time for your break, you've done a lot today I don't think I could thank you enough."

"Oh, I was going to do that anyway." She stretched, her response making Guren roll his eyes, "But you don't have to thank me, I'm doing what I'd do for my friends and it's my job anyway!"

"Sure, sure." He waved her off, making her chuckle as she walked back out of the room. Guren finally felt like he could rest.

The day went by uneventfully, excluding previous events, Guren couldn't help but surrender to the exhaustion and simply leant forward on his chair to rest his head on Y/N's lap; he deemed it much more safer for him to lower his guard now considering they were at a hospital which wouldn't hand Y/N over to Kureto as easily.

Guren didn't know how long he had slept for until he heard sniffling and a slight movement from underneath him, he looked up to see if Y/N had woken up and found her wiping her eyes with her bruised arm,

He stood up quickly, his hands cupping her face, "Hey, what's the matter are you in pain?"

Y/N shook her head, "I'm so relieved-" she sniffed, "I thought he would kill you,"

Guren chuckled, "I'm still here though, aren't I?" He wiped her tears as she nodded, a sad smile on her face,

"I would hug you but my body won't allow it." She huffed, a small sniff following afterwards,

He laid his head on top of hers, one hand gently caressing her H/C locks, "This will have to do for now then."

She was quiet until her face fell and she sat up quicker than she should've, surprising Guren and making her wince in pain, "The baby-" she looked up at Guren in alarm,

"Don't worry the baby is okay, you just need to focus on getting better yourself,"

She sighed in relief, her tense shoulders relaxing slightly as she changed the subject, "My ribs hurt like a bitch." Y/N huffed before falling back against the bed, only to groan as that hurt just as much as it did when she sat up, "I can't even breathe in peace,"

Guren gave her a bemused look, he was glad she was returning back to normal after the fairly traumatic incident, "Well you did break them, but you should be feeling much more better tomorrow." He resumed their previous position just as the door slid open, the two turned their heads to find Adora in the doorway, pulling a face,

"Gross," Her nose scrunched in fake disgust,

"Just say you're lonely and go." Guren shot back, sticking his tongue out childishly,

Adora rolled her eyes and scoffed, "Just the way I like it, anyway we need to have a chat." She took a seat, "How are you feeling, Y/N?"

"Like I could be drugged up." She responded with a sly smirk on her face,

"You're way too keen, I don't think that would be a good idea." Adora side-eyed her,

"It isn't." Guren agreed,

"I'll put you on gas and air,"

"Isn't that laughing gas? I don't think I can laugh in this condition..."

"Not everyone laughs on it, if you do I'll take you off it, you have fractured ribs and the last thing we'd want is you straining them by laughing, if that happens I'll put you on the good stuff."

"The good stuff?" Guren echoed in exasperation,

"She'll be high either way, gas and air is just less stronger." Adora shrugged,

"Either way I'm being drugged up." Y/N sighed happily, treating it as a win-win situation on her end,

"It's funny you assume that it's a nice experience for everyone," Adora said eerily, a small smirk playing on her lips, "But before I go and get the stuff I should ask you both one thing,"

Her face turned serious, "What do we do if Kureto shows up here?"
