"Snow White?" Jim chuckled.
"Hmm, that pretty dark haired girl's house you just picked me from, It seems I didn't tell you this morning." Cory sighed as he laid his head backwards. "She's my partner," he turned his head at an angle to look at Jim. "Who's your partner for the English project?"
"My ex, her name's Patricia. I couldn't think of any less clingy person I could have done this project with. That damn Mr. Ahmed, it's like he did this on purpose." He pulled up at Cory's front porch. "Partnering us with the wrong people n stuff."
If it weren't for that girl, I'd have ended up having to partner up with Jim. And that would mean getting another C in a row. I owe her this one.
Being dragged away from his thoughts, he sights Jim staring at him with his mouth open and moving. "Did you zone out again? I'll tell you what, that'd be the third this week that's happening. What's wrong?"
"Nothing, since I'm home I may as well go and say hi to that beast upstairs."
"Ah... I see, you'll be fine. I mean you're the only one who can manage staying a foot near him besides Amanda so that's an achievement right?" Jim grinned.
"I suppose, but that's because he's my father. I don't think I have much of a choice." Cory sighed, the conversation was taking longer than he expected, any chance of him getting safely into his room without his dad seeing him would be helpful. He had to leave now if he wanted to avoid the endless lecture on how he would become a failure if he refused to take his father's footsteps.
"You're doing it again." Jim reached into the car and threw the keys to Cory. "So much for catching." He smirked, watching Cory try to prevent the keys from falling. "What a klutz." He turned around. "Bye then," he waved his hand.
He turned back. "And hey, I'm going to Hawaii where Pat's spending the break. She refused to come here and I decided I have to go to her, so you're gonna need a new driver."
Cory tensed. "Uhn? Why are you just telling me now?!"
"Cause I figured you would throw a fit - like you are right now. And besides you can always get a substitute. You'll figure something out, bye." Jim picked up his pace to meet a cab, not before winking at Cory though.
Oooooh that backstabbing son of a bitch! I'll get him for this.
Cory simultaneously turned on his heels, only to meet the gaze of the great Gerald Williams - his father. "I see you have arrived."
He hesitated for a bit. "Yes father. I'm a bit tired now, can I have some rest and we'll talk later?" Cory's eyes bounced around, looking at everywhere but his dad.
"Very well, have your rest and we shall talk later in the evening. Agnes, please usher Cory to his room." His father headed back into the mansion.
He stepped towards Cory, his wrinkles giving way to his age, and his crooked smile adding more features to his face. "How have you been, young master?" Agnes bowed.
Cory embarrassed, immediately raised Agnes from his posture. "Hey, I've told you to stop doing that. You're embarrassing me!"
"Ah pardon me Mr. Cory, but it is my duty as a butler to serve you, so I must."
Cory smiled. "You work for my dad, not me. So it's okay to be free around me. I already see you as my dad, Mr. Agnes."
"Is that so? How are you doing Cory... it's been how many years since I last saw you - two?"
"Yes Mr. Agnes, it's been precisely 2 years since that day." Cory's expression stiffened, and Mr. Agnes, seeing as the current atmosphere changed, decided to change the topic.
"Why don't I follow you to your room and you can tell me all about it while we walk." He raised his hand forward.
"Hold on, I have to take this." He took out the leather-clothed book and held it firmly in his left hand. "Oh, I didn't bring stuff home since I already have a bunch of stuff here that I don't even use, it was pointless bringing all that with me." Cory replied to the questioning look Mr. Agnes gave him.
"I see, you have changed a lot since I last saw you too."
Cory smiled. "Let's go in now."
"Very well sir." Sir Agnes followed after him.
Two hours after talking to sir Agnes.
It had been two hours since Cory arrived and he was already feeling lonely. It was a rather odd feeling he was not familiar to, and had no intentions of getting familiar to it. But going anywhere now would be a problem for him cause he had that talk with his dad in an hour's time.
Also, there was nobody to drive him, although he could hire a substitute, but he had a feeling that would almost be impossible cause of his history with them. Basically, he was banned from getting any substitute driver, he didn't even know that could happen.
Cory groaned, rolling over to the other side. This place was driving him insane with the amount of quiet and peace in the area, back when he was in high school this place would never had been as quiet as this, especially with Hunter around.
Lowering his eyes a bit, he sighted Joanne's diary and turns out he forgot about it. He straightened his arm to reach for the book. Smirking, what's the point of a book if you can't read it? He thought.
After thirty minutes into her diary - he read only the recent pages - an idea popped into his head. What if he made Joanne do as he bid, by informing her of her diary with him and using that as the upper hand. It sounded a bit like what his dad would do, but he was his father's son afterall. Immediately he thought of this, he called her.
Well here was his chance.
Making sure that he had gotten himself three wishes, he fell into a deep slumber. He felt there was no need to still have a talk with his dad, he knew exactly what that 'talk' would be about - Amanda.
His dad just wanted to use him for some stupid deal in his company, and that was something he would never let happen. Cory saw it as a despicable thing to do, even for his dad.
Getting him married off for the growth of the company was something his mom would have never allowed if she was still alive, but she was not, so he'd have to come up with something later, all he wanted to do now was sleep... and dream of her.
