Plasma bullets are being sprayed overhead. My team captain is sprawled on the floor about 3 meters away from us, blood pouring from his lifeless torso. His legs are nothing but mush and fragments now, spread across the patch of dead grass in front of us. Things are hella wacky right now.

My assumed squad leader displays his hand, his index and middle finger sticking out from a balled up fist facing the direction the enemy was. He motions the gesture to the entire squad, and once we heard him click his tongue through the fuzzy comms radio, we were all on our feet, sprinting forward.

-----------------

Before any of us could run for more than 5 meters from the crater we were taking refuge in, a ball of fire and ash bloomed out of nowhere. The explosion immediately rendered 2 of our comrades incapable, separating one from his right arm that still clutched his gun in its lifeless grip, and instantly vaporising the other.
Yet, we continued to push forward as heated bullets whizzed past us at unholy speeds.

By the time we had made it to the cover of a rocky outcrop, the enemy had already thinned our numbers down from eight to three. It was just me and two other squadmates, one of which had the antenna pack that was crucial to our mission. I peered out from behind the ashen stone, and finally caught sight of the opposition.

The giant enemy spider.

-----------------

I hollered at the squadmate with the pack to pass me the wired video cam. Our mission was to simply take a video of the monstrosity that was treating this village as a mere playground, so that scientists back at HQ could figure out what the hell decided to just cause anarchy.

With a squeak, I successfully managed to clean the camera's lenses with the one spot on my shirt that wasn't covered in mud or blood. I quickly put the camera's dual viewfinders to my eyes. It worked like a pair of binoculars, and also, a charm.

"VIDEO FEED STARTED!", hollered the squadmate manning the pack, and i swiftly turned the three dials on the cam in order to adjust the focus. If it worked, HQ would be watching this live video feed now, and witnessing the horrors this mechanical arachnid was committing. The third squadmate fired several rounds aimed at the spider's legs, but to no avail. Actually, I think a bit of paint scraped off if I saw correctly. That probably helped.

Suddenly, a loud whirring sound came from the giant enemy spider. It had paused its relentless firing, and a missile of sorts slowly emerged from its top, painted in bright red. "Damn. Red? Its not like they couldn't have chosen a more original colour.", I muttered to myself as all three of us stared at the looney tunes bullshit going on in front of us.

It pivoted so as to aim above and behind us. I turned around to try and find it's supposed target. That's when I saw it. The gigachungus 5G tower. It was the lifeblood to our city. Food, electricity, the Internet. It was a better package deal than a cheap fast food sale gimmick, and now this 8-legged asshole was seeking to destroy it.
"SHOOT THE MISSILE!", screamed the homeboy who was previously aiming his shots at the spidermech's legs.
We immediately turned around and started shooting, knowing but not caring that if we managed to make the missile prematurely explode, we were well within it's blast radius. Except once again, our plan didn't work. It felt like our bullets were erasers thrown by 3 year olds when pit against the weapon of mass destruction. Eventually to our dismay, the missile dislodged itself and propelled towards the tower. I had no heart to look at its destruction, so I turned away from it. The gesture proved to be in vain, as I could still see the fireballs reflection on one of the spidermech's legs.

Well, it's okay. We didn't have much time to mourn anyways as by the time all three of us looked up at the mechanical destroyer, all we were met with were heated bullets.
