27- Making yourself at home I see?

Monday 28th May

"You are trying to kill me," Emersyn says getting into the car in the morning.

"Good morning to you too."

She brushes her hair out of her face, turning to me, her eyes narrowed.

"You got to Luella."

I try not to look at her sheepishly.

"Luella?" I ask.

"I spoke to her, she hated you, she speaks to you, she loves you!"

"Well I mean, I am lovabl-"

"August."

I just try not to let the smile creep onto my face.

"And Rayne, why is your brother sending me pro August things?"

I shrug. "Maybe he just can't wait for the summer."

She blinks, confused, then groans and looks at me harshly.

"August pay attention to me."

"You always have my attention," I say absentmindedly turning on the car.

"Why are you winning over my friends?"

I shrug. "Why? Because if I don't then you'll run away with Lue on our-"

I look at her. I laugh at her fully confused and just fed up face.

"Em, they just know how much I care. That's all. Are you okay?"

She nods, looking out the window instead of at me. "It's easier when I have at least one person being the devil and saying not to go for you."

I smile to myself then. Because does that mean I am the choice that she views as the angel on her shoulder?

"I was exhausted yesterday." She admits. "I fell asleep before I saw your message to call, so I'm sorry about that."

I shake my head. "No that's fine."

"Can we just...chill today?" She whispers. "Like um, no pressure?"

I look at her. "You feel pressured?"

"I just mean, can we just, my stress levels are high with everything right now and you usually bring me calm and so I am asking if we could just have a chill day?"

Okay.

I nod.

"Like is that ok?" She says softly.

"Yeah of course it is."

Emersyn smiles. "Good morning then."

I laugh at that, knowing she wants a fresh start for this interaction. "Good morning you, you do sure bring chaotic energy wherever you go."

She just shrugs. "I am trying to calm."

"Ok." I laugh. "Shall we head to the supermarket?"

Emersyn nods. "Yes, how many do we have to do?"

"Just two I think. You have the notes right?"

She hums, opening her phone and just as I start pulling out of the road she reached over to my shoulder and she just touches me a little, the back of her hand grazing my arm.

"Yeah?" I say softly, thinking she was trying to get my attention.

"No. Nothing."

I flick my eyes over to her then.
