Chapter 1:

What is heartbreak?

Heartbreak is lying on the bathroom floor trying your hardest to breathe while at the same time wondering why it all went wrong and how you're gonna get up and pretend like everything is all right. And what the hell are you gonna do about that hole in your chest?

Yeah that's heartbreak.

"Oooh you're a badass." Sarcasm dripping though I couldn't help smiling while watching Anthony climb over the tall iron fence.

"I hope you don't expect me to hop over that." I tried imagining myself getting over that thing without scraping, falling, or injuring myself in any external or internal way. Nope impossible.

His feet land on the other side with a light tap and he looks up to smile at me, "Don't worry, I got this. Theres no need for you to lift a finger while you've got me." He smirked and opened the gate for me seconds later.

"Shall we?" He smirks, takes my hand and pulls me forward before I answer.

Light from the street lamps barely illuminate anything. The small amount of light reflects off the pool and blue waves are cast across Anthony's gorgeous face. I love everything about him. I could just get so lost looking in his deep brown eyes. He gave me a look and I just laughed. "I love your laugh." He says out of the blue.

An uncontrollable grin took over as I reply, "Oh yeah?"

He easily drapes his arms around my waist and wraps me in embrace. "Hell yeah." He says and kisses my forehead. Looking over his shoulder, I couldn't help but notice he was standing with his back to the edge if the pool. Evil plan popped into my mind.

"Hey Anthony, can I see you're phone real quick?" Hehe.

Without hesitating, he slips his phone out of his pocket and hands it over.

"Thanks!" I sing as I shove him into the pool. I hold his phone high in the air, out of the splash zone and wait for impact. I laugh as the water splashes everywhere, drenching my jeans.

Anthony emerges from the surface and shakes his dark hair out like a dog saying, "Dani!"

"Man its a good thing your phone didn't fall in there with ya! You better thank the Lord in your prayers tonight!" I smirked down at his serious face.

"Hm." He hums as he swims to the concrete edge of the pool, "You realize that you've just begun-" He jumps up, grabs me by the arm, and yanks me in with him. I open my eyes in the chlorine and see a foggy Anthony clenching his stomach chuckling up bubbles under the water. We rise to the surface and I turn to him with the most serious face I can muster. Only to have Cole playfully squirt water at me with his mouth and finish, "-war."

As our epic splash war begins, determination burns in his eyes until a bright light flashes across them. Anthony suddenly stops splashing and looks toward the street. "COPS!" He yell whispers for me to hear and we submerge to the farthest end of the pool and crawl out, bailing out of there faster than lightning can strike.

Within seconds, we were invisible to the night patrol in the overgrown forest right next to the clubhouse. We crouched behind a bush and I peaked through the brush to see the cop flashing a light in random directions for his routine watch."He has no clue we were even there." I smirk at Anthony. "Great. Lets blow this popsiclestand." He says as he gets on all fours and crawls deeper into the forest until we are safe from the cop's sight. Anthony stands up and throws a hand at me to help me up.

Enjoying the warmth of his hand in mine, we walk to the other side of the thin patch of woods that opens to the empty street. A bell chimes as we walk through the blue doors of the Waffle House. We choose the booth in the back corner of the joint. He slides in first, resting his arm on the top of the seat until I slide in under his arm. We fit together like two puzzle pieces. I dig in my soaked jacket pocket and set our phones on the table. I press the center button of each device and watch them light up like normal. "Few! Thank God for Lifeproof!"

He laughs lightly, "Real smart stunt you pulled back there, pushing me in. You knew that wasn't just gonna fly with me." He pretends to punch my face but only lightly taps me as he makes overexagerating fighting sound affects. I look up at him and give him a look expressing how weird I think he is and he just smiles real big.

"Dani! Anthony! You sure are out late, " We hear a familiar perky voice call. Jessica Meyer with her signature pony tail, pencil in ear, all over classic waitress look stands beside our table. "You mind? Didn't think so," She says as she slides into the opposite side of the booth, "I'm beat. Twenty more minutes and I'm off for the night. So, going to Nicole's party Friday?"

"Drunk idiots, cheap alcohol, and pointless drama. I think I'll pass." I cross my arms over my chest and laugh.

Anthony nudges me playfully, "Say what? You're seriously gonna miss out on this party? It's Nicole's beach house! It'll be fun!"

"Sorry, I'd rather we go have a scary movie marathon. It's better than forgetting everything you did the night before at some lame party with some girls phone number written in sharpie on your arm." Jessica giggles, "You're so overdramatic, Dani." I smile at her. I've always liked Jessica but have never really had a chance to get to know her that well. I think we'd be really good friends if we actually had some classes together.

"Whatever goes through your mind is seriously messed up." Anthony smirks and nudges my head, resulting in a punch from yours truly.

"Fine. If you even try to slip me alcohol, I'm gonna let your phone have a taste of it." I threaten. I've had tastes of the stuff before and have hated it ever since. Plus I've been to a couple parties back in my day and the drunk people there are quite the characters. I can't even imagine what kind of a drunk I'd be. Nightmares of dancing on a table and slipping, cracking my head open flash before me eyes. Or of waking up in a strange place. That would be so much worst.

"I'm glad I have a waterproof case." He states and I glare at him for his insensitivity. "Just incase I accidentally drop it, being the incredibly clumsy person I am." Saving himself from another punch. I can't help but smile then turn my attention to Jessica, opening my mouth to speak-

"JESSICA IF YOU'RE SITTING IN THAT BOOTH ONE MORE SECOND, YOU'RE FIRED THIS TIME!"

"Crap," She stands up straightening her apron and pulling out her notepad, "How may I serve you tonight? I recommend the waffles"
