I finally stopped crying and it was time for the store to open. I sniffed and walked over to turn the sign around to "hello, we're open." I wiped the tears that stained my cheeks. I sighed a sadden breath. "Can I help on the case?" I bluntly asked. Matsuda widened his eye at me and rushed over to me. "Are you crazy, no, you're only 22, you have your whole life ahead of you!" He shook me. I brushed him off me. "Ikuto was only 27, he had his whole life ahead of him too." I said coldly and frowned. I didn't mean to snap. "Please." I begged. "I'll work hard and stay out of the way and-" Matsuda cut me off. "It's not up to me." Matsuda said. I thought for a moment. "Then take me to L." I said crossing my arms. Matsuda stayed quiet. "Please." I shook him and tears brimmed my eyes. Matsuda sighed again. "Alright, alright, fine." He said. I hugged him. "I'll come back the same time you have lunch." He said. "Do you even remember what time that is?" I asked. "1, duh." A small smile pulled at his features making a small one pull at mine. "Okay, see you then." I waved and sat back down on the stool as he walked out of the store. I turned to look in the mirror that was hanging over the cash register. My eyes were red and puffy. "Ugh, great!" I cursed to myself. I sat there and ran a hand through my hair. I tried not to cry again as all the memories I shared with my brother flashed through like a movie.

"Catch it, Y/n!" My brother called as he threw the red ball at me. I remember closing my eyes but extending my hands to catch it. I felt something land on my arms and I immediately hugged it to much chest. I opened my eyes to see the ball. "I caught it Ikuto, I caught it!" A smile spread across my face. "See, I told you, you could." He smiled and walked over to me. "Now I can play with the other kids." I smiled up at him.

I let out a breath I wasn't aware I was holding and looked out the big window to see a delivery bike ride by. I slightly smiled.

"Don't let go Ikuto." I remember saying to him as I gripped the handle bars of his bike. He chuckled a bit. "I won't." He said. "Promise?" I questioned has he jogged along side me and held the bike up for me. "Oh come on Y/n, I have to let go some time or you'll never learn." Ikuto smiled. I frowned. "Promise." I repeated, only for him to laugh. I looked back to see him far behind. "Ikuto I told you-" I started to yell. "Look you're doing it all be yourself." He shouted back with a smile. I smiled and keep peeling.

"Excuse me." I heard a harsh voice. I looked up and tried to wipe the tears from my eyes. "Y-yeah?" My voice cracked and I tried to swallow the limp in my throat. The mid aged women looked down at me and her stone face softened a bit. "I would like to by these." She said putting down little chocolates in gold foil to look like coins. I sniffed. "Excellent choice." I have a weak smile. Ikuto used to give me this as "pay" when I helped him with the dishes or something. She starred at me as I rang them up. "Are you alright?" She asked. I slowly looked up at her. "Y-yeah...just a tuff day." I said. "This will be $2.29." I added bagging the candies. She nodded and handed me the money. I put the cash and change in the register and handed her the receipt. "Have a nice day." I gave another weak smile. She only nodded again and turned to leave. I sighed. This was going to be a long day.

*lunch break*

I anxiously waited for Matsuda to enter through the door. I paced back and forth and studied the different flavors of the candy. I tried desperately to distract myself. I counted the gum balls I counted the color jelly beans and counted the different flavors of chocolate. The little bell rang against the door and I spun around in hope. Before me was an elder man with white hair, glasses and a suit. "Do you have any strawberry short cake?" The man asked. His poster was very proper. I looked at him before jumping forward. "Huh, yeah." I said walking towards the cakes on display. "I made this one about an hour ago." I state and take the cake off display to cut into it. "Perfect." The man says and I can hear the smile in his tone. I pull a knife from a drawer and cut into it. "How many pieces?" I asked. "May I have the whole thing?" He asks. I look at him over my shoulder. "I can respect a man who likes the whole strawberry short cake." I smile. The man chuckles a bit. I place the cake in the box and put it on the counter to ring up. Suddenly Matsuda burst threw the door. "I'm sorry I'm late and...Watari what are you doing here?" Matsuda slowly approaches us. I look in between both males with a confused expression and interest into how they know each other. Police task for members? Maybe. "We ran out of cake and-" Matsuda cut of the man. "L loves his cake." He turns to me. I nod with an "ah". There's awkward silence as we all look between each other. "This is Y/n, the girl I told you about." Matsuda said turning to look at me again. Watari extends a hand to me and I take it. "Hello miss, Y/n." He smiles and his mustache arches to form in the same shape his smile does. I slightly smile back at him. "I'm sure L would be delighted to meet with you." Wateri adds. "I sure hope so, I really want to do all I can to help." I reply. "I admire your determination." Wateri states. I smile a little bit more. "Well, I hope you have a lovely rest of your evening, perhaps I'll see you at head quarters." Wateri slightly bows. "Thank you, I hope you have a wonderful evening as well." I reply. I pass him the cake and he passes me the money. Watari leaves and I walk over to turn the sign around. "So what does this L guy look like?" I laugh. Matsuda shrugs. "Sorry I can't say." He answers and I follow him out side. I lock the door and we walk down the side walk. "Oh come on, is he old like Wateri?" I ask looking at Matsuda who chuckles. "Not exactly." Matsuda says. "What do you mean, he either is or he isn't." I glare at him. Matsuda shrugs again and I roll my eyes. "Is he tall?" I ask. Matsuda chuckles. "It's an interview, not a date." He teases. I playfully punch him in the arm. "That's not funny, I'm being serious, I just wanna know what to expect." I say. I look up at the trees that line one side of the side walk. "Is he nice?" I ask looking forward again. "At times." He answers. I nod. After a while and many unanswered questions later we arrive at a hotel. I give Matsuda a confused look. "This...is head quarters." He says with a smile and opens his arms to present the hotel. "Wow, it's nice." I say and follow him inside. We get on the elevator. "Does he wear a suit?" I ask and Matsuda sighs and rubs his temples. The elevator doors open and we walk down the hallway. He opens a double door for me as I follow him into the room. Everybody turns around. I shy behind Matsuda but he moves to the side. "This is Y/n!" He says happily. Everyone smiles and waves. "I'll be back." Matsuda says and turns to walk away. "Hey where are you-" I was cut off by a blonde girl approached me...more like running up to me and jumping up and down well holding my arm. "Are you going to work here too? I like your hair, are you a model too, hi I'm Misa!" She says excitedly. She was so loud for my liking but I knew I had to be nice. "Hopefully I get to work here, and thanks, and no I'm not a model, and hello, I'm Y/n." I said answering to every comment and question. She tugged me in the direction of everyone else. "This is my boyfriend light!" She said plopping down next to a boy with long brown hair and soft brown eyes, he had on a red dress shirt and brownish tan pants, he had a tie to match. Misa clinged onto his arm. "Hey." He manages to say. "Hi." I answer. "I'm Aizawa." I turn to face a man with black hair that looks to be in a small Afro. He has on a white dress shirt that's tucked nicely into his black pants, he has a black tie on too. "Hello." I say. "I'm Mogi." Another voice is heard and I turn to the side to see a man with a white dress shirt has well and tan pants, he has short brown hair. "Hi." I answer to him. "Y/n." I hear Matsuda's voice and I turn to met with him. "L would like to speak with you." He says. I swallow hard and follow him up some stairs.

"Don't be nervous." He smiles down at me as we walk down a hallway on the second floor. "Easy for you to say." I frown a bit. "Okay, you can ask me one more question." Matsuda says still with a smile. I think for a minute. "Is L even human?" I ask. I mean he always showed up to the public as just a letter L and a voice so it made me wonder. "I'll let you decide that." Matsuda say opening the door and pushing me in a bit. He closes the door leaving me alone in the room with this so called L. "Good evening Y/n, I have heard good things about you." I hear a deep monotone voice say. I turn around away from the closed door and see a young man probably around my age. He's just standing there scratching the back of his leg with his other foot. He has his hands in his pockets. He's wearing a baggy white long sleeve shirt and regular blue jeans. He's bare foot and has shaggy, messy black hair. He looks like he hasn't slept in months. "Hello." I say and bit shy. I actually wasn't expecting him to be this good looking. "Please take a seat." He says presenting the couch next to him. Wateri walks in. "Hi again." I smile at him. "Oh, hello." Wateri smiles. "Yes, Wateri told me he met you earlier." L says as he climbs on the couch and crouches down. I look at him. "I see." I say. I walk over to sit on the couch as well. "May I get you anything?" Wateri asks. I shake me head 'no'. "Perhaps a little later, thank you." L replies. Wateri nods and leaves. The room falls silent and awkward. I'm trapped in between turning and looking at him or just keep looking around the room. There's only so much for me to look at to avoid looking at him. A tall potted plant, a blank TV screen, Curtains covering a window, and the ceiling light. Finally I just turn and face him. To my surprise he was already looking at me or what seemed like starring. He had a thumb pressed against her lower lip. I blushed a bit. "I'm sure Matsuda already told you a lot about-" I was cut off. "Tell me about you and your brother." He says. I swallow hard. "Don't cry, don't cry." I say to myself. "Uh...we were obviously pretty close, um...it was just me and him growing up, I looked up to him all my life, uh...my parents died when we were both younger so we lived with my auntie, uh, he was 5 years old than me." I say starting to choke up a bit. L watches and studies me. I clear my throat. "Sorry about that, um, let's see, oh, he always pushed me to do my best even when I was going through a hard time in my life...I remember when our parents died, it was a car accident, I cried for about a week straight and he just comforted me. We cried together of course because, well both our parents were died." I say now trying to keep my tears from falling. L hasn't changed his interested expression or moved a muscle from his choice in sitting. I was quiet for a minute. "He was always strong for the both of us." I added. "Tell me about yourself." L spoke calmly and stood. I figured if I was going to be working here I should tell him a bit about myself. "Let's see um...I don't know what to say." I shyly smiled up at him. "Start with something simple." He suggested "Alright...well I already told you my parents died, I was close with my brother....oh, I like reading, I enjoy drawing, dancing, and singing.....I had a cat once but he ran away." I explain. I look up at L he a has a small smile on. I was a bit surprised. Even meeting him for the first time he looked a bit depressed and serious, I didn't think I would have seen him smile so soon. "I would like to help with the Kira case." I say bluntly. L stays quiet and walks towards the window. "I believe in justice, and what Kira is doing is not justice. It's a person playing god, blinded by his own mental imagine of a perfect world....clearly he doesn't care who he takes out of this world to achieve this goal of his." I bring myself to stand up. "I know my brother would have done the same-" I was cut off again. "I admire your out look on kira and although we share the same thoughts, why should I let you work under me?" He asks turning to me. He has if hands in his pockets and a slouched over poster. "Whoever this Kira person is, I want to know justice will catch up to them. I want to be there to see Kira get what is coming to them despite who it may be....I don't want more people having to go through what I have to go through right now.....I would never wish this pain upon someone." I answer with confidence. L looks some what pleased. "You do realized this kind of work requires all your time, and the work is extremely dangerous-" I cut him off. "I am willing to give all my time and my life it necessary." I say. "Very well then, can you start tonight?" He asks. I nodded. "Yes." I answer. "Good, pack clothes, and come prepared to work." He says heading towards the door. "Of course." I say. "One more thing." He says. I look at him once again waiting for any answer. "You must call me Ryuzaki when we are out of this building and, or in front of anyone." He says closing the door as he exits, leaving me behind without answering.
