I Fight, Therefore I am Alive

I've slipped and fell on countless frozen lakes—
cracked my stubborn head and suffered breaks;
but blood and scars are how I've learned to hone
the balance to thrive in the arctic zone.

Oh and I have crossed the snow peaked mountains
to sit an' drink from spring's elusive fountains—
only to stand and swiftly travel back
into a cold and lonesome bivouac.

Likewise, I've bathed in the warmth of summer's gold
and praised its lucid light—but the truth be told:
it's always been the deadly arctic night
that's kept my hungry fire burning bright.

I am awake, because a starving bear
is always lurking in the wild somewhere.
Each meal may be my very last, that's why
the fire of life will never pass me by.

Yes the beasts are always on the hunt
but as I fight upon the battlefront—
I wear their skins, and from my necklace hangs
the remnants of their deadly claws and fangs.

Across the hinterland where tempests thrive
in war—I fight, therefore I am alive.
I pledge with all my heart and every breath—
to always smile in the face of death.

Yes the deep an' deadly packs of snow
force my legs to climb all peaks and grow.
Upon the mountains of the wild and free—
I stand and hail the fires o' victory.
