*Dexter's P.O.V.*

"What-cha reading, small fry?" Sneered the most hated bully at school, Sage Terry. I watched from a distance as he flicked Jeffrey's(my friend's) nose. I felt a little futile anger bubble up in my chest, and took a few confident steps closer. If anything, they can say I was being brave, sticking up for my friend, before I died.

"Hey," I started weakly, "Leave my friend alone." I gripped my books to my chest, and watched as he turned to look at me.

Okay, despite his horrible character, he was a pretty... Decent looking guy. Messy black hair, piercing blue eyes, his body to die for. Not that I'm gay or anything. That would be pure icing to the cake. I can hear them now. 'Oh, look, the nerds gay, too! More of a reason to make fun of him!' Yay. (Notice the lack of enthusiasm.)

"Excuse me?" Sage raised an eyebrow at me, and looked me over. But I'm not much. Shaggy brown hair that cover my face and eyes (by choice, mind you). My eyes, though many couldn't see, were deep green. I think they look pretty ... Strange, so I choose to cover them up with my glasses and hair. I'm skinny, and about 5'6 in height, which isn't that bad considering my weight. Over all, I'm completely average(excluding my eyes, which cannot be seen unless I moved my hair aside). Sage seemed sorta thrown that I, a geek of my own height and stature, would defy him. "And-- you are?"

I saw Jeffery try to move back a bit, but Sage kicked him in warning, and turned back to me. I gulped, suddenly realizing how much damage a guy like Sage could do to a guy like.. Well, me. I stutter, "I- I'm Dexter."

He stuck up his nose at me and made a waving motion. "Run along, punk, I don't have time for you." Sage promptly turned back to Jeff and continued what he started moments before.

I gathered the best amount of courage I could, and said louder, "I said, leave my friend alone." I stepped closer, and stood a little taller-- even if my voice cracked halfway through speaking.

Sage, after glancing at me over his shoulder, dropped Jeffery from where he had him by the collar. "So, the nerd grew some, eh? Well, I thought I told you to beat it." He turned back to Jeff, and continued, "You have my homework, small-fry?"

This is for my friend, this is for my friend, this is for my friend... I chanted over in my head. Taking a deep breath, I yelled, "Jeff, run!"

Then I jumped onto Sage's back.

...

"Wh... what happened?" I blinked my eyes open, but immediately closed them. "What the hell?" I rapidly blinked, trying to adjust to the bright room.

When they were finally open, and I could see properly, I noticed Jeffery sitting beside the bed. He smiled sadly at me. "I can't believe you did that for me."

I smiled back. "It's fine. So... how'd I do?" I coughed. "In the fight, or whatever it was."

He laughed. "Not so well. He ended up braking your glasses and you fainted."

My glasses? God dammit, those were my only pair. Now I'll have to wait weeks for a new pair. "Damn." I shook my head. "I suck, don't I?"

Jeff looked at me like I was crazy. "Dex, I'd be dead right now if it wasn't for you." He laughed. "You're, like, my only friend. I guess I made correct judgment on that." I smiled at him. Leave it to Jeffery to get all sentimental.

Well, sort of.

I looked around. "Where am I?"

He glanced around. "The nurses office. It's only lunch, though." He snorted. "Next time, remind me to get bullied at the end of the day."
