Chapter 16 - Reprising the Songsies (in which Crutchie is still a bean)

Start from the beginning

Elmer and JoJo shrug together.

Then, before you know it,
We'll be out there,

Specs and Tommy boy spin together.

Carrying the banner!

They do a Newsie jump, before posing again.

Davey, Eliza, Lucky, Crutchie, and Les clap for them.

The boys laugh, jokingly bowing or pretending to curtsy.

"Not bad, Jacky." Davey jokes.

Jack chuckles, fixing his hat. "Thanks, Dave." He smiles at him.

Davey blushes a bit.

They walk into Jacobi's, all of them sitting down.

It was only them in the shop.

"You know," Race starts, sitting up in his seat. "I'm feeling musical."

"Oh God." Davey mutters, rubbing the temples of his forehead.

"Someone throw me a newspaper!" Race requests.

Buttons tosses him a newspaper.

Race tips his hat to him. "Thanks, B."

Buttons nods.

Race: You don't need money when you're famous,

He grins.

"Well," Davey mutters, sitting up in his seat. "At least I know this one."

Jack, Crutchie, and Eliza raise an eyebrow at him.

Davey brushes it off.

Race: They gives ya whatever ya want, gratis!

Henry sits up, grinning.

Henry: Such as?

As much as Race was annoying sometimes, the boys loved singing this song and the memories of how happy they were at this part of the strike.

They all needed some light in that dark point of the strike.

Blink walks over to Eliza. "Be prepared for the boys to ask you to sing." He whispers.

"I don't know the lyrics." Eliza responds, a bit confused.

Blink whispers them to her.

Eliza nods.

Race: A pair of new shoes with matching laces!

Romeo takes the paper from him, like he had done during the strike.

Romeo: A partner in Poker who knows the rules!

"I'm sorry!" Specs shouts.

The boys laugh.

Henry: A pastrami on rye with a sour pickle!

His mouth was basically watering.

Eliza makes a gesture to him as though she would keep that in mind.

Henry shoots her a thumbs up and a grin.

Finch stood with one foot on the table and the other standing on the chair, holding a stick.

Finch: A personal puss on a wooden nickel!

Race takes the paper again.

Race: Look at me! I'm the King of New York!

Jack, Crutchie, and Eliza share a laugh, as Race starts tapping.

The boys share grins.

Mr. Jacobi stands in the doorway, just watching. He liked watching them.
