Her brother didn't live far from their parents house. They were located on the outskirts of the town, more in the farmland, when Kallisto was six; her father felt it was best to stay away from the population to help keep Kallisto's gifts from overrunning. Her brother bought the closest house that was only an acre away, to stay close with his family and also to build his family with Miranda.
Kallisto walked quietly down the dirt road that led up to her brother's enormous house. The sun had settled on the horizon, setting ablaze an orange glow to the snowy ground. Kallisto could hear the family dogs barking happily as they scampered around the front field. She pushed open the gate, immediately greeted by two large dogs. She smiled softly as they barked her a greeting before bounding off back to the house and scurrying through the doggy door.
"Aunt Kalli!"
Her oldest nephew Marcel, pushed open the front door and leaped from the porch to hug his aunt. He was tall for a ten year old, with shaggy brown hair and brown eyes. He was missing a front tooth that he showed proudly when he smiled. He latched onto Kallisto with a tight hug. She returned the hug, wrapping her arms around his shoulders, before holding him out.
"Have you gotten shorter?"
"Yeah as if! You're the one getting shorter!" He grinned up at her. "Dad said you'd be coming over for a sleepover!" Kallisto shrugged her shoulders. Marcel took the duffle bag from her hands before grabbing her hand with his free one and tugged her to follow him.
The house was warm and filled with a heavy scent of food. Toys were scattered in the living from her other nephews, with dog beds stuffed beside the fireplace for the two pets. Miranda was sitting nicely on the couch with her baby settled against her chest. The second oldest, Kyle was at her feet colouring a page, with the biggest dog Harry resting his head on his lap.
"Kallisto! What a surprise!"
"I'm sorry to intrude..." Kallisto awkwardly hung back by the door as Marcel raced upstairs with her bag. Miranda waved her hand nonchalantly. "Oh it's fine! The kids love you and leave me alone, so you're always welcomed any time." She waved to her sister-in-law to sit beside her. Kallisto removed her coat and hung it on the stair banister before stepping over some toys and sitting beside her on the couch. Kyle looked up from his page and shyly waved to his aunt.
"Daddy is in the kitchen."
"Yes he is. Kyle, do you mind going to help your dad out? Mommy wants to talk to your aunt for a minute." He obliged and whistled for Harry to follow him and they left the living room.
Miranda glanced over to the kitchen door, making sure it shut completely before carefully moving around the couch to face Kallisto. Bobby giggled as his mother shifted from him from her chest and onto her lap.
"Any reason why you're here? Not that I mind the company, it's lonesome being the only female here."
Kallisto held out a finger for her youngest nephew to hold on to. "I lost control."
"Oh?"
Miranda didn't pull her son away from the girl. Despite knowing how destructive her gifts could be, Miranda trusted Kallisto with every fiber in her body, she wasn't afraid to have her children be around her. She smiled as Bobby shook her finger around and squealed. He chewed on her finger as Kallisto took a moment to gather the events and explain.
"My mum got angry about the whole thing with the government man keeping us from bringing back Marcella. She was furious at our dad for not being as angry as she was," Kallisto smiled as Bobby giggled at her with her finger still in his mouth, "I know he is, I could feel it, he's just, not one for showing his emotions, you know?"
