Chapter One. Allie's POV.

I bounced up and down in my seat as the city bus rolled over the potholes of downtown Los Angeles. I was squished between a red faced man who desperately should learn that cologne doesn't substitute for showering and a woman on the phone who needed to learn volume control. It was hard to believe that in less than two weeks I'd finally be getting my license and hopefully never stepping another foot on this "death-trap" again.

"Excuse me?"

I turned and saw that "loud mouth" was looking right at me.

"Yes?" I said, taking my ear buds out.

"Yeah, my boyfriend is gonna be gettin' on the next stop so I was wonderin' if you would move so he could sit by me."

"Um sure, I'm getting off at that stop anyways."

"Oh, thanks girl!" She said clapping her hands together.

I awkwardly looked away and focused my attention back on my music. Without warning, the bus slammed on the breaks, causing me to lurch forward; and slam my face into the seat in front of me. I stood up, rubbing the side of my cheek, and headed towards the door. When I walked down the steps I passed someone who I could only assume was "loud mouth's" boyfriend. At least by the looks of it they certainly seemed like they belonged together.

My hair whipped around my face as the wind started picking up and the clouds rolled in. I quickly ran across the street and pulled on the heavy brass handle, shaped like a starfish, when I reached the door. Walking into the overly air-conditioned mall, I turned right and headed towards the fountain where I was meeting up with my best friend, Meghan.

The fountain was the place where everyone tended to hang out for some reason and as usual it was crowded with people from my school. I smiled and waved at friends I hadn't seen or talked to since school got out and continued to look around for Meghan.

"Hey Allie!"

I turned and saw one of my good "guy-friends", Kyle, wave as he ran by with the hefty mall cop on his heels. I rolled my eyes, only imagining what he could've gotten himself into this time.

I continued looking around but I realized she wasn't there yet so I sat on a bench and talked to a girl I had had a few classes with until I heard Meghan's voice coming from behind.

"Allie!"

I turned around and saw her running towards me with arms full of shopping bags. I said goodbye to the girl I was talking to and met up with Meghan

"Hey, sorry I'm late but there was a huge shoe sale at Macys and I didn't want all the good selections to sell out." She said in between breaths when we reached each other.

"Ohh, you can show me later," I squealed, grabbing some of the bags from her, "but can we go put these in your car so we don't have to carry them around?"

"Definitely, I'm parked in front of the movie theatre."

I looked at the bags between the two of us and counted about 4 or 5.

"Dang Meg, I'm surprised you found this many shoes to fit your giant feet." I said laughing, proud of my "hilarious" joke that really wasn't that hilarious.

Suddenly I felt the impacted of one of her bags hitting me in the chest.

"Hey," I said, whacking her back with another one of the bags, "what was that for?"

"What was that for?" She asked in disbelief, "For calling my dainty little feet giant!"

"Dainty? Little?" I scoffed under my breath.

I was hit with another blow from her shoe bag and I was about to retaliate when I came into contact with something hard, only this time it wasn't a bag filled with shoes.

My feet slipped out from beneath me and I was knocked on my butt as the bags came loose from my hands and scattered across the floor.

My nostrils filled with the scent of men's cologne and looked up only to meet eyes with a guy who could only be described as handsome
