Halle made her way into the Great Hall and many heads turned to her, the volume of the room rising as everybody began to discuss their theories as to who she was and what happened to her. Everyone had known about her Christmas, and even though she knew this was coming, she couldn't help but roll her eyes, but nether the less, her confident facade returned and she smiled brightly as she sat down next Ron.

The Great Hall looked its usual splendid self, decorated for the start-of-term feast. Golden plates and goblets gleamed by the light of hundreds and hundreds of candles, floating over the tables in midair. The four long House tables were packed with chattering students; at the top of the Hall, the staff sat along one side of a fifth table, facing their pupils.

Dumbledore announced a quick welcome back speech, and soon enough, the feast had appeared.

Nearly Headless Nick watched mournfully as everyone loaded their own plates.

"I see Kaycie has been sorted into Slytherin," Lucas mentioned, glancing around the hall, "and who's that?" He quickly filled his mouth with carrots as he looked at his friends.

"She has always seemed to have Slytherin traits, if you ask me," shrugged Harry, "I noticed it before...you know, and even more so now she's living with us."

"So how do you guys know Kaycie?"

"Lottie's best mate from when she lived in the orphanage, she's just moved, James has taken her on," Ron explained.

"Professor Potter?"

"My dad, yeah," Harry nodded, turning to his younger sister Sophia, who was with Ginny Weasley. "You seen that, Phia?"

"Harry, chew your food before you speak to me!"

He swallowed hard, "sorry. Did you see Kaycie is in Slytherin?"

"I knew it! Dad owes me ten sickles!"

"Aaah, 'at's be'er," said Ron, with his mouth full of mashed potato.

"What is?" Asked Halle, who was picking her way through her meal as she glared at anyone who looked in her direction.

"I was just so hungry, I really needed food!"

"You're so disgusting, Ron," Hermione pulled a face.

"Can't a man eat?" Asked Harry, through a sizable chunk of steak.

Halle made eye contact with his girlfriend, who rolled her eyes at his disgusting manners from the Hufflepuff table.

"You boys really need to learn manners," groaned Jasmine, "it's like watching horses eat!"

"Shush, Jas," replied Harry.

"We're 'ungry!" Lucas said through several bites of a Yorkshire pudding.

"Revolting!" Jasmine shuddered.

"Ah, no need to be grumpy, love!" Lucas blew a kiss at Jasmine, who laughed loudly. The two were practically a couple, though Halle knew they hadn't made things 'official' just yet.

"Nobody answered my question," Ron frowned, "who's that new kid at the Slytherin table?"

It appeared he had spoken a little too loudly, because everyone in the hall went silent, glancing around the room until they spotted the new face at the Slytherin table. The boy had dark hair and sharp features, he had a scowl on his face as he stared back at Ron.

"Way to embarrass him, Ron!" Jasmine whispered.

"We've had lots of new people this year," Hermione said thoughtfully. "I wonder why he's joined so late."

"He doesn't look the happiest of kids, does he?" Harry murmured.

"No Slytherins ever do," Ron muttered, shaking his head as he went to take another sip of his pumpkin juice.

The rain was still drumming heavily against the high, dark glass. Another clap of thunder shook the windows, and the stormy ceiling flashed, illuminating the golden plates as the remains of the first course vanished and were replaced, instantly, with puddings.

"Treacle tart, my favourite!" Harry said, excitedly taking three slices and placing them all on his plate, quickly digging in.

Halle sipped more of her drink, not taking any pudding. Her stomach was filled with nerves, and she couldn't help but grab a few glances from Sirius Black. The fact that the man sitting at the teachers table could be her father was stressing her out more and more by the minute, she felt like she was going to explode.

"Aren't you going to have pudding?" Frowned Ron, looking up at the girl he had grown so fond of over the past few months.

"I'm not too hungry," Halle shook her head, her pulse racing.

"Not even a treacle tart?"

"Spotted dick, look! Chocolate gateau!" Lucas grinned.

"Lovely, a spotty dick," she pulled a face at the name, "I'm okay, honestly."

"Well, more for me I guess!" Exclaimed Ron, happily reaching for another slice of chocolate gateau.

When the puddings too had been demolished, and the last crumbs had faded off the plates, leaving them sparkling clean, Albus Dumbledore got to his feet again. The buzz of chatter filling the Hall ceased almost at once, so that only the howling wind and pounding rain could be heard.

"So!" said Dumbledore, smiling around at them all. "Now that we are all fed and watered, off to bed, pip-pip!"

"Excuse me?" A voice suddenly said, and Halle turned to see the new boy. "Hayden Evermore, I have to say, it's a pleasure to meet you, miss Black, I've heard oh so much about you."

"Um," Halle paused, there were so many things she could respond with, but she couldn't quite pick the right one. "Thanks? It's lovely to meet you too."

She suddenly had that ringing in her ears again, and the horrible feeling something was wrong.

Ron looked angry, he was giving the kid the ugliest look he could muster up, and as soon as Harry and Lucas caught sight of it, they were holding onto their laughter for dear life.

"I have a feeling we'll be seeing each other a lot, I assume Alan and Michelle have spoken highly of me?"

A shiver ran down her spine, "they've never mentioned you, I'm afraid."

"Interesting," he smiled sweetly, "I guess you can get to know me yourself."

"Halle," a stern voice said from behind her, and she quickly turned to see Minerva McGonagall. "I'd like you and Lucas to follow me to Headmaster Dumbledores office."

"Alright..." she mumbled, looking up at her head of house cautiously, before looking back at Hayden, he scared her.

Ron gave her a comforting smile and nodded his head for her to go, yet he looked agitated, which worried her even more, and she followed her head of house away from the table.

"See you," her friends waved her goodbye and the four made their way to Dumbledores office.
