Ignorance is bliss

Adam sat in what seemed to be a dark void. He knew it wasn't a void though. It was a room. But with the lights turned off, it seemed like an endless, dark void. He was shivering slightly. It was a little chilly, but the shivering came from stress. He was already losing track of how long he'd been here. How long it'd been since he last saw the light of the sun. Since he last saw James. Adam took a deep breath.
'It'll be okay. They're probably already looking for you. Those monsters can't keep you here forever. They won't keep making me go through these horrors every day. One day they'll stop, right? But when will that be? How much longer will I be stuck here. No! James is probably looking for you. Everyone is probably looking for you. They'll find me.' He said to himself before softly shaking his head.
'If I keep talking to myself like this, I'll lose my mind. If those guys don't make me lose it before that.' He said.
Adam closed his eyes. There was nothing to see in the dark room anyways. Not until someone turned on the lights. He felt tired, but didn't wanna go back to sleep. These were his only moments of peace. He cleared his throat, just to disrupt the silence. It was too quiet. Part of him wanted to talk to break the quietness, but he feared that talking to himself would make him go crazy. He didn't know if that was just a thing in the movies, but he didn't wanna risk it. He thought of James. He missed him. He missed him so much already.

'It's been a long day without you, my friend
And I'll tell you all about it when I see you again
We've come a long way from where we began
Oh, I'll tell you all about it when I see you again
When I see you again'

Adam sang softly to break the silence that was taunting him. His mind thinking of the blonde boy he loved. Thinking of the voice he actually wanted to hear instead of his own.

'Damn, who knew?
All the planes we flew, good things we been through
That I'd be standing right here talking to you
'Bout another path, I know we loved to hit the road and laugh
But something told me that it wouldn't last
Had to switch up, look at things different, see the bigger picture
Those were the days, hard work forever pays
Now I see you in a better place
Uh

How can we not talk about family when family's all that we got?
Everything I went through, you were standing there by my side
And now you gon' be with me for the last ride

It's been a long day without you, my friend
And I'll tell you all about it when I see you again
We've come a long way
From where we began
Oh, I'll tell you all about it when I see you again
When I see you again

First, you both go out your way and the vibe is feeling strong
And what's small turned to a friendship, a friendship turned to a bond
And that bond will never be broken, the love will never get lost'

The sounds of footsteps echoed through the hallway that Adam assumed lied behind the door he couldn't get through. Voices were coming closer and Adam stopped singing, but kept humming the tune of his song until he heard the footsteps fade away again.

'So remember me when I'm gone'

He whispered as a tear rolled down his cheek.
'Remember me, James. Please, never forget me...' He sobbed.
Suddenly the lights on the ceiling turned on, not only blinding Adam for a couple seconds, but also striking fear into his heart as he went from crying in sadness to crying in terror.
