It was around 7pm when I decided to go to the Welcome Back to School party. I had only been there for a month before school ended last year and I had ready been considered and outcast.

I left with my hair curled and wearing the same clothes I'd worn this morning. I didn't bother putting on makeup, in my opinion it was a waste of time.

The moon glistened in the dark sky making the ground shine. The party was held at a senior's house, from what I've heard a senior always throws the party. When I walked in eyes glanced in my direction followed by pointing fingers. It didn't matter to me.

My best friend Lydia ran up to me. Her baby blue hair braided to the side. A smile appeared across her tan face.
"Didn't think you were comin'!" Earlier that day she mentioned the party but I hadn't felt well.
"Well, I feel better." I replied sheepishly.

We walked around when a guy wasn't pulling her to the side to dance. She was a guy magnet and knew it, but she would never want me to feel out of place. Alcohol was served but I wouldn't dare drink any, I've seen what alcohol can do to people. Lydia on the other hand gulped down the beer as if she hadn't had anything to drink in days. Many people said Lydia was stuck up or a brat but in reality people didn't like her because she was pretty.

After an hour or so my throat began to become dry. I went over to the punch bowl and fixed myself a cup of what looked like kool aid.
"Hey Rose." Said a familiar voice.
"Hey, what are you doing here?"
I turned to face Jake.
"I honestly don't know."
"Well that makes two of us." I replied smiling at him.

We walked outside and sat down on a bench placed in one of the gardens. There was still the faint noise of music blasting from inside and a few people dancing wildly. The moonlight was shining brighter than it was a few hours ago. We sat and talked about the party and school, I avoided the family talks.

It had felt like a few minutes of connections being made between me and Jake, when in reality it had been a few hours.

"Well I guess I better head home." I hated to end this perfect night with someone who made me forget about how much of an out cast I am.
"Well tonight was fun."
"Yeah see ya at school Monday?" I asked hoping he hadn't noticed the wishing tone I had let slip out.
"Yeah." He replied, I turned and walked toward my two story house leaving the party and Jake behind.

It had been around midnight when I finally arrived back at my house. It was about a 20 minute walk from the party from where I live. When I arrived in my bedroom I checked my phone. Lydia sent me almost 45 messages. Each asking about who the 'mystery guy' was, I had guessed she was referring to Jake. She also stated that he was hot and all the girls wanted him. I hope she is exaggerating.

Lydia and I planned to meet up at the Kooks Café around 10am. When I walked in I noticed even more stares and pointed fingers than usual.
"What gives?" I asked Lydia hoping she would shed some light on this situation. I was wrong.
"Umm Rose, I'm guessing it could have something to do with you and Jake!" She said in a sarcastic tone.
"Is everyone really that fond of him? He seems like a normal teenager to me!" I hadn't meant for my voice to sound so...mean. Lydia flinched as if I had tried to swing at her. I hadn't realized how loud I was being until Lydia's eyes became as wide as a saucer.

"Sorry, I just don't see what the big deal is." I admitted
"The big deal Rose," She started to explain, "Is that no girl can ever get Jake's attention long enough to have a real conversation. Actually come to think of it no girl has ever tried to have a real conversation with him." This news hit me like a truck. It had to be a joke; no girl much less a guy has ever hinted interest in being friends with me except Lydia.

"Rose you could use this to your advantage!" She's right. I could use Jake to get friends or to make guys jealous.

"Yeah I could but it's wrong so I'm not going to." I reply and walk away from the conversation.
