Yeontan alerted Taehyung to the arrival of the movers with enough time for him to jam his feet into his nearly unused sneakers. Yeontan stuck his little black nose right against the crack and yipped in exactly the way he'd been taught not to do. (Taught, but hadn't learned.)
Taehyung scooped up the puppy and covered his snout with a hand just before the movers knocked on the door. Yeontan tossed off the hand and sounded the alarm.
"Should have left you with Seokjin," Taehyung muttered, and swung the door open.
Taehyung had just bought a small house in the nearly urban suburbs to get him out of his glossy apartment in a tower downtown. The place would put him at a fifteen minute drive from work as opposed to a five minute walk, but he would no longer have to worry about forty drunk undergrads crashing through his ceiling every weekend.
Unfortunately, Taehyung had not properly worked out in five years, and his steel-framed couch had to weigh at least two-hundred-pounds. Seokjin had suggested a moving company. They'd vaguely giggled over the prospect of several strong, young men coming to Taehyung's apartment to offer their services, and then Taehyung sobered up and scheduled a morning with them.
"Sorry about Yeontan," he said, opening the door. "He's won't bite, I promise."
Waiting on the other side of the door were three men in black polos and workpants, two with dollies, all young, tall, and burly. Taehyung was probably supposed to say something else. A confirmation that he was the person they were looking for, a question about whether he should pay now or after, but the man in front, standing cocked back confidently on one heel and filling out his shirt like a statue, looked like all the best guys that Taehyung ever took home late at night.
He gazed up from under his eyelashes with the roundest dark eyes. "Mr. Kim, right?" He said, eyes innocently wide, combining with a voice so soft and gentle that Taehyung felt an actual pang of heartache.
Call me babydoll, the script would usually go. "Ah, Taehyung, yes. Yeontan, shut up please."
The beautiful man read out the addresses of this apartment and the new place, probably getting them right. Taehyung was too distracted by the shape of his plush lower lip and the length of his eyelashes to really tell.
He nodded anyway. "Okay. I'm Jungkook. This is Jeremiah and Carl." He motioned to the right to the tall man with short dreads sticking out the back of his baseball cap, and then to the meaty man on his left with his hands clasped politely in front of him. "Do you have any preference for where we start?" How about with a light drink and a little less clothing?
"Um, I guess...hrm." Taehyung had been thinking about grabbing the furniture for the front rooms first so they would sit at the back of the truck and they didn't have to maneuver pieces for the back room past the circular dining room table his aunt had lent him with a printed page of instructions on taking care of the finish. Yeontan attempted another bark and Taehyung held his mouth shut. "No, I guess not."
