Before he could think about the person infront of him more he remembered what previously happened, "wait, where's everyone. Is Kayano okay" he asked frantically looking left and right for something he couldn't reach

"If the girls life is what your worried about then I can tell you she is perfectly fine" Nagisa gave a sigh of relief releasing a breath he didn't realize he was holding. His copy began to circle around him, "although I am surprised. You have just witnessed your own death and you wondered about the safety of others. Truly strange" he said before walking back infront of the blunette

"Well yeah. As long as I know I saved Kayano I could die happy"

"Well as much as I'd like to fulfill that wish I'm afraid you are not dieing today"

"Wait. But what was all that then? Aren't I dead now?" He asked in confusion

"In a manner of speaking yes. What you experienced was your own brain shutting down. You see when we die are brain still has several minutes before it deteriorates, during this time it can not process death so it suspends the conscience until death occurs. So to summarize you where stuck in a kind of limbo where you would remain until true death occurs" It paused finished with its explanation, "as far as where we are you may thank your teacher for this." He stretched out a hand signaling to show the space around the two, "He created this method so nothing like what happened to Yukimura-Sensei would happen to his students. Although in your case this is different"

"What do you mean?"

"The process should have been similar to sleeping. You died, then you woke up good as new, this would have happened in Kayano's case but not in yours"

"Why am I different?"

"Because when you saved Kayano your heart was destroyed completely. If it was Kayano it be as simple as repairing the skin add in some tentacle cells to help the healing and done but with you Koro-sensei has to reconstruct your heart perfectly as to not cause you future problems which requires more tentacle cells. Hence why I'm here" he put a hand to his chest doing a slight bow

"So are you telling me your the tentacle cells" Nagisa asked in slight fear

"Yes, although the situation we are faced with is different from the others you have seen use me"

"How are you different"

"The tentacle cells are not sentient. While your classmates and teacher may say it asked them what the desired it had already attached itself. In other words the brain could not believe it was invaded so it tricks itself into believing it has a choice in the matter"

"So how is this different from before" Nagisa asked again

"Whats different is that I was not injected directly into you. I evolved from the collective minds of Kayano, Itona, and Koro-sensei and it gave me the ability to be sentient which also means that you may actually have a choice in the matter of what you desire"

"So is that why you saved me"

"Technically yes. I am now your heart and you are the brain. One cannot exist without the other or the body won't work so I simply saved you. Now all that's left is you must except me as your new heart and you will awaken"

"And to do this I need to tell you what I desire"

"Precisely. I may be your heart but I am still made of tentacle cells which means I need a desire to fully utilize my potential. You may have died once but it shall not happen again." Any traces of emotions left his face as he stood their, "So. What do you desire. Nagisa Shiota"

Nagisa stood their as his copy watched intently. Trying to come up with something he wished for so the tentacles would utilize it but he had no desires. He did not wish for revenge or to win and he didn't want to kill anyone. So what did he want that the tentacles could use

"I don't want my friends to get hurt" he meekly awnsered

"Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional. What do you want" he replied completely tossing away his wish

"Wha? But you asked for what I desired and you say its not good enough" Nagisa said frustrated

"I do not agree simply because it is impossible to do. I am inside of you so stopping the pain of others would be a pointless endeavor"

"But I don't have any goals other than protecting my friends. What else am I good for" Nagisa fell to the ground staring at the nonexistent floor with a look of frustration as tears streamed down his face, " if I can't protect them. I'm useless" he sobbed

Nagisa felt a hand rest on his head as he look up to meet his own eyes staring him down with a look of remorse, "you may wish for whatever you desire but if I granted your wish the tentacles would override your brain and not even Koro-sensei could save you. Before you wish to protect others you must first make sure that you are not in need of protection yourself. Protecting others starts with protecting yourself. If you focus to much on protecting the ones you stand infront of you won't see what's threatening them" he stood up and looked down without emotion on his face once again but his eyes burned with passion as he outstretched his hand, "so I will ask again. What do you want for yourself Nagisa"

Nagisa stared at the hand outstretched to him and he thought of all his friends and everything they went through together. But at the end of everything he saw the one person he cared about the most calling his name. With new resolve he took the hand infront of him and spoke with absolute confidence

"I know I'm weak and I can't protect myself at all" He looked away for a brief second before stealing himself again. "which is why I want to ask that you take care of protecting me. So I can protect others without having to worry" It was a stupid wish. A wish that to others would seem like the pinnacle of selfish but the man infront of him thought the opposite

And as Nagisa slowly fell back into the waking world he saw the man infront of him change into another and smile

"What a fine wish"

And done. I finally finished one of the key points in this story. Its not over but I think I've done a lot so far.

Incase you were wander the line I used was,

"Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional. What do you want"

that entire line was from a movie my dad watch like 2 years ago and I stuck around for a few minutes and that line really hit me and I knew I needed to put it in a story so I thought of this one. This was the key thing that led to this stories creation so I think its pretty great

Thank you for sticking around and I'll catch everyone later
