While eating dinner at the Gilmore's house.
"So Christina, are you dating anyone new?" Grandma asks .
"Mom!" My mom scolds, " you know that's a sensitive topic for her. "
"It's just a simple question lauralai, don't raise your voice at the table."
" I'm not dating anyone new actually. " I answer.
My mom sends me a sympathetic look and Rory just looks down at her food, ashamed.
"What about you Rory?" Grandma asks .
   "I'm not either." She lies.
" Oh I have a wonderful idea! " she exclaims, "How about you girls come to a yale alumni party were hosting on Tuesday!"
" oh yes, the yale alumni party. " grandpa says with the slightest smirk.
Rory looks at me for help because I know her and Dean are going on a date that day. I don't like Dean, in fact I DISPISE him. But I want Rory to be happy so I'll help her out. "Actually grandma, Rory is going to a very important newspaper social gathering on tuesday, but I can come." I suggest.
" Ya, very important. " Rory agrees.

I start to get ready for the party.
"You do realize grandma has something set up for you right? She's probably going to arrange you a marriage while your there." My mom jokes.
   " I guess we'll just have to see. " I laugh.
"Are you sure you'll be okay? I mean with the whole Jess situation?" She takes a curler out.
" ya mom, that was months ago, I'm fine."
  "Ok."

I'm sitting in grandma's room, while her maids add to my makeup and she pampers me with jewelry.
"We should get down to the party grandma."
" ah yes let's go, shall we? "

"Every One, this is my grand daughter, Christina!" Grandma announces to the party.
   Everyone 'ooh's and ' ah's.
"You look beautiful." Grandpa compliments me.
   "Thank you."
" oh uh, Christina, I'd like you to meet Min and Argus Head and their son Andrew. Andrew, this is my granddaughter, Christina. "
"Nice to meet you." Andrew says.
   " You too. " I reply.
"Andrew will be at yale law next hear." Grandpa states.
   " isn't that wonderful? " asks grandma.
"It is, especially if you, uh, want to be a lawyer." I joke.
Everyone laughs. "She's a pistol this one." Grandpa says.
"Well we need to make the rounds. You two can talk more later." Grandma says, walking to another group, "Christina, we'd like you to meet Tiana and Chase Anderson, and their son Donnan.
"It's a pleasure to meet you." Donnan compliments .
   "You to."
" Donnan is going to run his father's shipping business one day. " grandpa informs me.
I practically forget where i am and what's going on. I get lost in my thoughts. Is it a coincidence that all these are SONS and not DAUGHTERS, I think not. They're trying to set me up.
"Christina? Christina?" grandma waves a hand in front of me.
"Will you excuse me, i need to talk to my grandparents.
I drag the two away from the group.
"Yes Christina?" " are you enjoying the party? " they ask.
"The party is very nice. I was just wondering, do you have any alumni friends with daughters?"
" Daughters? What do you mean? "Grandma questions.
"Well i was just noticing, that there are allot of boys here."
" Really? I hadn't noticed. I promise, we'll throw another only girl party next time.

I use the phone in grandpa's office and dial my mom's cell.
"I told you." She says when she answers.
  " told me what? "
"whatever happened at that party you got roped into tonight. I told you."
" Do you wanna hear, or just gloat? "
  "Well I'm a multitasker."
" So i get here and grandma immediately whisked me upstairs, where her hairdresser and makeup artist are waiting to make a new me. "
"'cause the old you is so last season."
" Then i come downstairs to find that the guests are all yale friends of grandma and grandpa and their sons."
   "What?"
   " No girls--all boys and me. "
   "Your kidding."
" No. I feel like I'm being auctioned off. "
   "They suck. My parents suck."
   " This is a silly picture. "
"They know the breakup hit you hard 'cause i told them."
   " It's ok, I just thought you'd like to know. "
   "Do you have a pencil?"
   "Why?"
" There are 12 ways out of that house that they don't know about. Write this down. First the basement. It's a little dusty but almost foolproof. If you can't get there, grab a screwdriver and Jimmy the back of my mother's closet. There's a false back. "
   "Mom"
"And if they haven't trimmed the trees yet, the second guest bathroom window opens out onto the massive elm,and you can shimmy right down."
" I am not going to shimmy. I don't need to sneak out. It's fine. "
   "They played you kid."
   " Ya i know. "
"I hate that they did that."
" Well it's done. Ok i should go. Bye. "
