Chapter two

It's funny....I have the feeling of deja vu as I look around my new room. I feel like I've dreamt this before, or been here before, but thats impossible. And crazy. I suddenly feel an urge to run to the big double bed and collapse on it.

The room isn't quite my style - I go for a more modern, sharp style - but it isn't ugly and has a safe, secure, homey feel to it. Aunt Jaymee even said I could decorate it and change it however I like - something I've never had the chance to do.

The walls are a pale pink colour and all the furniture is white with a sort of rustic look to it. The room is big....actually, it's gigantic. I start unpacking my clothes from my suitcase. About halfway through, I finally find it. A small black wooden box. I open it.

My black box is sort of like my treasure box, I guess. In it, I have my mothers perfume, a photo of her and my dad, a few rare coins and other precious treasures. I take it to the bed and sit down, sinking into the bed. I take out the perfume and squirt some on my wrist. I still remember this scent from when I was seven years old. It's a rosey, fruity fragrance which my mother would always wear and a swell of emotion bubbles in my chest as I smell it.

Tears fill my eyes but before they can spill, I compose myself, drying my eyes. Whats in the past, stays in the past. I head downstairs for dinner.

Two Weeks Later

"Your gonna love it Milly!" Kathy says, trying to convince me that I'll like school in Australia. I'm freaking out, really. I feel weird in this uniform; a knee length light blue skirt and a white shirt with the school emblem.

"I'm just really nervous...you know, about fitting in and all," I say. I feel even more awkward sitting on this side of the car.

She turns down another street and says, "Trust me, it's a small school. And I mean, look at you, gorgeous, long brown hair and green eyes! All the boys are gonna be going for ya!"

We both laugh at this "Yeah, but with the girls to! I want to make friends,"

"True. But I'm sure you'll get on with all of my friends too,"

"What about you, do you have a boyfriend?" I ask.  Today, she has put her blond hair into a high, messy bun.

"Yeah, his name is Mark." She pulls into the parking lot.

"Uhh...this is what you call 'small'?" I asked with disbelief.

"Compared, yes." Kathy and I walk through the gates to registration. After, she takes me to meet her friends. We walk towards a group of teenage boys and girls. They were obviously her friends because everyone was glad to see her, calling her name. One boy with curly blond hair wrapped his arms around Kathy's waist and kissed her - Mark.

After a few seconds she pulls away from Mark. "Everyone, this is Milly, my cousin. Milly, this is Sarah, Brittany, Kevin, Sam, Amanda, Tayla and Jude." She says, "Oh, and of course, Mark,"  Kathy adds giving me a funny smile.

"Hey...everyone," I say awkwardly. Tayla and Brittany start talking with me and the others talk too. I'm being polite and talking with them, but I can't help but notice the boy named Jude looking at me strangely. The bell goes and Kathy and I head for our lockers.

"Ugh, we have maths first class," She says, opening her locker. "Oh my gosh, i forgot some of my books in my car! Come, lets go get them,"

"We'll be late for class!"

"Oh please, the maths teacher is so ancient I swear, she won't even notice we're late!"

Katthy was right. We came into class and - Mrs. Fork? - barely cared we were late. We took a seat at the back and endured maths - which seemed to last for an eternity.

As Kathy and I walked out of maths, I looked at my time table. My next class was art.

"I have art next. But you don't do it do you?" I ask.

"Na, I'm terrible at art! But I can walk you there, 'cus I mean, you'll probably get lost,"

"It's all right, I'll find my way." I say not too sure if I was telling the truth.

"You sure?"

"Absolutely," I say but Kathy still hesitates before leaving for her next class. I walk around a bit, trying to follow the map I'd been given. I'm certain that I am running late when I pause in front of a class room to read my map.

"You know, the best way to learn is inside the classroom," A voice says and I jump. I turn and see Jude, standing there, a smile on his face.

"Oh my gosh! You scared me," I say

He laughs as if I were joking "It's Amelia, right?" Jude asks.

"Yeah, but, you can just call me Milly," I say, suddenly self concious

"All right then, Milly, how about we get to class. Don't worry I'll cover for you,"

"Oh, right, yeah, I didn't realise this was the right classroom," I say, slightly embarrassed.

"Mr Bleach and Ms Haven! Why are you so late for class?" The teacher attacked us before we were both even in the class room. And, boy, was I glad Jude was handling this one!

"Sorry, Mr Bide, Milly got lost, I was just helping her find her way," He says in a polite tone.

"Okay then," Mr Bide says, looking a bit humiliated, "take the back seats and don't be late again."

And already, I was starting to like Jude. Though, I knew I couldn't get distracted.
