"You don't remember me at all, do you?" The dark figure asked.

Jewel squinted, straining very hard to see the bird's face, having difficulty identifying him with the light shining from behind. Then he got closer, blocking the light. "Cat got your tongue?" He prodded.

"Am I supposed to know who you are?"

"Ok," he answered. "Let's go back in time; let's say, 17 years. What do you remember?"

"There was a fire that forced us to find a new home. A fire like... the one we just fought. Wait, how am I alive?"

He chuckled. "You're looking at your saviour, Jewel."

Jewel tried to stand, but realized her wings and feet were strapped to the bottom of the cage. "Then why am I tied? And how do you know my name?"

"You're my prisoner," the mystery bird answered. "You see, I actually have a score to settle with your mate. He happened to marry you, coincidentally. Kind of a good thing on my part. I now have leverage.

But that fire years ago? The loggers were just a bonus; an easy scapegoat."

"You still haven't told me who you are."

"You'll figure it out soon enough." The evil bird laughed.
