It was another beautiful morning in the Grace Field library. The sun always seemed to shine in the most captivating way through the window and on to the books that were in the dark bookshelves. Alex had experienced the sight many times but still couldn't get used to how ethereal it looked. The redheaded girl was almost always awake before any of her siblings were. She always loved to wake up earlier so she could read the many books in the library. Her favorite books were the fantasy ones and they have been since she was little.

Reading a fantasy book was her way of experiencing the world in a different way. She, nor any of her other siblings in the house, have been to the outside world so they don't know what it's like.  Of course, she could read what the outside world is like through history books or nonfiction books, but where was the fun in that? History and nonfiction books always described the world in such a bland and tasteless way. Fantasy books, although not actually real or true, described the world in a colorful and exciting way.

Hoping the outside world was like the worlds she read about in many books was definitely crazy. The girl couldn't help herself though. There was a small part of her hoped that it was just a little bit exciting... More exciting than the house that is. The routine around here was always the same. It wouldn't hurt to have some change in routine or scenery. A memory popped up in her mind as she thought about the outside world.

A smaller version of Alex stood with three other kids. One of the kids had orange hair with, what looked like, an antenna sticking up and green eyes. This girl's name was Emma. She was the bright and cheerful one out of the four of them. The next kid had dark hair and dark green eyes. His name was Ray and he was the second bookworm of the room. He had probably read more books than Alex had. The last kid had platinum blonde hair and blue eyes. That was Norman. Norman was brilliantly smart, and he was always supporting Emma and Alex in any of their decision or choices.

The four kids were standing in front of a very large gate. Emma and Alex stared at the gate with child-like wonder. They had never been so close to it before. Their caretaker, who they called their mother, was always telling them to stay away from it so they listened to her. It was one of the main rules of the house. Emma went to stare into one of the barred windows before turning back to the other three.

"Hey," She called to them. They all turned their attention to the orange-haired girl. "What do you want to do if you go outside?"

That was definitely a thought. Alex had thought about it many times, but she was never sure what she would actually do. She had so many ideas of stuff she could experience. The possibilities were quite literally endless. The girl, not knowing an answer to give, just shrugged in response.

Ray, who had his hands in his pockets, gave a verbal answer, "Dunno. How about you?"

Emma's grin became even wider, "I want to ride a giraffe!"
