Maya's POV

I sat down next to Andy on the couch and handed her a glass of water.

"So what's going on?" I tentatively asked.

"Are you sure you want to talk about this right now? Because I can go you know just say the word and I'll run out of here so you can get back to ... you know."

"No I'm here for you, plus I've already been kicked out of the shower, I don't think Carina would let me jump back in with her. So spill" I leaned back a little on the couch making myself more comfortable where as Andy shot up and started pacing around my living room. She started to go into detail of the past few days. How she thought she was meeting her aunt but her supposedly dead mother showed up in the room. Obviously still conflicted about the encounter she keeps ranting for a while.

"I mean what does she expect of me? She looked so hurt when I refused to stay, but she's dead or she was supposed to be dead. I mean-"

"Andy," I interrupted her spiralling, "slow down and breathe. What do you want to do? Do you want to go back and talk to her or do you just want to never think of her again? Do you want to drown your sorrows in alcohol?"

"I, I don't know. What should I do? I mean she is my mother but she faked her death to get away from our family. I don't know what to do."

I opened my mouth to respond but nothing came out as I felt familiar hands wrap around my body from behind the couch. I relaxed to the touch and looked up at her. "Are you leaving for work?" I asked my hands still on her arms, not wanting to leave her embrace.
"Si, in a moment I was going to grab some food." She responded and hesitatingly added, "For what it's worth Andy, I think you should sit down and talk to your mama. Just to hear her side and then you can decide what you want to do. Family is very important but sometimes it is better to let them go." Her eyes found mine and searched for reassurance as Andy was quiet and she was unsure if she overstepped with giving advice to her girlfriend's best friend. After some silence Andy spoke up which eased some fears of Carina's. Andy started to speak, which seemed as if she was processing out loud which was familiar to Maya.

"I- but she- I mean-" She kept speaking in fragments clearly spiralling in her own head.
"Hey, out loud, what's going on in there" I interrupted her, keeping my voice steady but raising it just enough to get her to break from her spiral of thoughts.

"I guess I will talk to her?" Her eyes went in search of Carina instead of Maya. This took Carina by surprise, but inside Maya was beaming that her best friend trusted the love of her life enough in her time of need to find comfort in her eyes rather than Mayas. "I'll tell my Tia to come and I will try to hear her out but I don't know if I can forgive her for this." she continued, her voice was as if she was reassuring herself. She looked back at Carina then back down to me.

Carina's POV

I was upset about getting left alone in the shower this morning however I knew that Andy needed Maya right now and with their friendship just getting back to normal I let it slide. I finished my shower and got dressed and as I was walking out of the bedroom about to join Andy and Maya I heard bits and pieces of the story and realized that this morning was definitely an emergency that deserved a pass from her beautiful girlfriend being taken away from her. After leaning down to embrace Maya I hesitantly offered advice not sure if in this situation I should be. As Andy processed my words my mind started racing. I wondered if I just overstepped and ruined whatever progress Maya and Andy had made. Maya must have realized my mind started racing because her bright blue eyes looked in mine and she gave a warm reassuring smile before stroking my arm. After a couple minutes of silence Andy looked up meeting my eyes instead of Mayas. She trusted my advice. This small thing felt huge to me as even if they were on the rocks I still sought approval from Maya's friends. After Andy thought through a few more things a comfortable silence fell upon the three of us. One which I broke as I looked over at the clock on the wall and realized the time.
"I have to leave bambina, I'm sorry" I said as my dark brown eyes met her bright blue ones. She gave me a warm smile before tilting her head up ever so slightly but I took the hint and dropped my head meeting her as our lips touched. We both smiled into the sweet and simple kiss, I broke it first which left an adorable pout on Maya's face. "I'm sorry I have to rush out Andy, I hope things get better."

"Hmmm?" Andy brought her eyes up from the ground where she has still been in her head going over the past events and what may come in the future. "Oh you shouldn't be sorry, uh I am sorry for uh ya know interrupting your morning plans."

"No don't be, you needed Maya, plus I can think of a few ways Maya can make it up to me." I remarked having to bite my lip at the reactions I caused. Maya's eyes shot up towards mine in amusement as she quietly chuckled, obviously getting lost in her thoughts from the prompt I gave her. Whereas Andy's cheeks got red and she awkwardly laughed before replying with "oh I see."

Maya's POV

Carina left after her last comment, I was still lost in my mind thinking of what is to come later in the night when I looked over towards Andy who had the biggest smile on her face.
"What?"

"Oh nothing, just observing my best friend in an actual healthy relationship with a hot italian."

"Hey she's mine." I replied back with a big smile, thinking about how lucky I am to have her and how different things were with her.
