'ʙɪᴛᴛᴇʀꜱᴡᴇᴇᴛ /// ᴏɪᴋᴀᴡᴀ x ʀᴇᴀᴅᴇʀ'

Part 7- Before

"Toru," I still miss the way that name rolled off of my tongue. "You need to take a break or you are going to train yourself out." I sigh as I hand him a bottle of water and go sit next to Coach and our teacher advisor and track how many serves were out or in and all that.

"Kageyama will and can play any position but he will eventually become a setter." Coach said and I feel my eyes widen. Tobio is going to be a setter. Good for him.

Practice continued on that day and I was giving Tobio some tips on how to receive. I played for a bit but stopped after elementary. I still played with the guys when we had an easy practice. So  I pick up on some techniques after a while.

"You need to drop your hips and use your legs to push the ball out, not your legs." I smile and he does too.

"Th-thanks Y/N-senpai!" He shouts and I laugh.

"You're welcome!" I smile as I pat the boys head and ran to help Kunimi collect some volleyballs he spilled out of the cart.

Everything went fine up until that moment when Tobio was subbed in for Oikawa. I still remember it like it happened yesterday.

"Hey Oikawa? Can you maybe teach me how to serve?" Tobio asks. Playing with a volleyball in-between his hands. I see Oikawa's eyes widen and raise his arm up. It happened so quickly. Oikawa thrusted his arm forward before Iwa caught it. Preventing Tobio from being punched full force to the face.

"Tobio why don't you go home ya? Make sure you have a filling dinner and a good nights rest." I smiled at him at he left and I turned back to Oikawa.

"You dummy! You were subbed in because you were tired not because you were bad!" Iwa said and Oikawa noded.

"It's - you're gonna be okay." I smiled and Oikawa did the same.

The day after, we lost to Shiratorizawa Junior High's Ushiwaka. We didn't even win a  single set. Ushiwaka was tall and strong, and us? We were just a weaker team then that day. I remember Oikawa, Iwa and I crying after that game.

"We are gonna humiliate them! I'm gonna beat that whole team." Oikawa sobbed as he held onto my hand and I nodded beside the two boys.

"Y-you guys can do it . I believe in you." I said and I remember the two boys smiling at me. Maybe that's why I say that all the time. Because I know they know I'm telling the truth.

Months later we graduated and Oikawa received the best setter award and I remember him smiling the most genuine smile I first saw from him in a while since the Tobio incident.

We graduated then came to Seijoh. Oikawa got a recommendation from both Aoba Josiah and  Shiratorizawa while Iwa and I only got recommendations to Aoba Josiah but he decided to come with us to our current school.

"When we beat Shiratorizawa and Ushiwaka I will be doing it with you two by my side." Oikawa smiled as he said it.

Once we joined the team in high school Oikawa asked me out and we began to date.  We met Makki when his hair was still long and Mattsun when his hair was still straight. It curled when he cut it. Oikawa would sleep over at my place and sleep on a futon beside my bed. Iwa, Makki and Mattsun would come somedays too. We would go to practices and tournaments and on my spare time I would take Takeru to Little Tykes Volleyball Centre with Oikawa.

I heard about this player from Kitagawa Daichi , 'The King of the Court', hearing that name I thought this boy was an amazing setter. Oikawa and I went to watch a game with this kid after one of our first dates and when I saw the King of the Court I knew that nickname was one of ill intent. Tobio was a good setter but he was on a power trip. Constantly wanting control. I remember glancing at Oikawa and watching his scared eyes as he watched Tobio play. He knew that Tobio would one day, surpass him.

END OF FLASHBACK

Tobio Kageyama. You are evolving at a rapid speed, but today my team will win. No matter how much I care for you, the boys on my team will be my priority. I watch as Oikawa and Kindaichi block the freak quick and I smile.

I knew they could win and they did. I run up to Kindaichi and ruffle up his Onion hair and begin my praise.

"Mister Onion can block a freak quick attack!" I smile as I ruffle up his hair even more as I stand on the tips of my toes to reach. I walk up to Iwa, Makki, Mattsun  and Oikawa and give them each a hug.

When I hug Oikawa I say, "Now it's Shiratorizawa. I hope you win the deal." I smile. Referring to Oikawa's deal that if we win against Shiratorizawa we get back together.

I release the hug and go up to Karasuno. I bow in front of their manager and thank her for the game. I do this every time after I big game. 

"Thank you for the game well played  Shimizu-san." 

"You are welcome L/N-san." She smiles in a disappointed yet appreciated way and I walk up and leave to go to Tobio. We make eye contact as I walk up to him and I grab his hand and shake it before pulling him into a hug and patting his back.

"You sure have improved Tobio. Keep it up." I say then I leave to go back to my team. I feel Tobio's eyes stare at the back of my head as I walk away.

"Okay boys I hope you are hungry because ramen is on me!" I smile as the boys cheer.  Makki and Mattsun pick me up by my shoulders and feet as they swing me around and say 'thank you miss manager' like some chant as I and the coaches laugh.
