🇮🇹Vince Clarke è nato a Basildon il 3 luglio
1960. Vince è un tastierista ed è stato il primo leader e compositore della band.
Il brano con cui esordirono la prima volta nel 1980, "Photographic", è stato scritto da lui. Il loro primo disco ebbe successo e quindi la band fu coinvolta in tour e interviste.
Vince però decide di abbandonare la band perché non si sente pronto per questa nuova vita, stimolante e stressante allo stesso tempo.
Però non fu l'unico motivo. Martin Gore per primo, preferiva fare musica più dark mentre Vince preferiva continuare con la musica dance.
Con l'abbandono totale della band, insieme ad Andy Bell fondò un altro gruppo "Erasure".
Dopo l'abbandono di Vince, i ragazzi lasciarono un annuncio pubblicitario dove si diceva che la band era alla ricerca di un tastierista. Si fece dunque notare per la sua bravura un ragazzo, Alan Wilder.
Alan è nato ad Hammersmith, a Londra, il 1 giugno 1959. È un musicista, compositore e anche produttore discografico.
È stato nella band fino dal 1982 al 1995, in un periodo non tanto bello per i membri del gruppo. Alla fine del Devotional Tour decise di lasciare i Depeche Mode, perché non riusciva più a riconoscere il lavoro di squadra e anche l'entusiasmo che c'era sempre stato. Dave aveva problemi di droga e ha anche rischiato di morire diverse volte, mentre Martin divenne alcolista.
Attualmente la band è composta da Dave,Martin ed Andy.

He was in the band until 1982-1995, in a not so good time for the band members. At the end of the Devotional Tour he decided to leave Depeche Mode, because he could no longer recognize the teamwork and also the enthusiasm that had always been there. Dave had drug problems and even risked dying several times while Martin became an alcoholic.
Currently the band consists of Dave, Martin and Andy.
