Nel 1977, a sedici anni abbandonò la scuola, pur prendendo ottimi voti, per lavorare come impiegato in banca. A scuola ha studiato il francese e il tedesco, che parla molto bene anche perché ha vissuto in Germania negli anni '80.
Martin ha scritto la maggior parte dei brani dei Depeche mode, alcune di queste le ha scritte a quattordici anni.
Andrew Fletcher è nato l'8 luglio 1961 a Nottingham. È anche lui tastierista e come Martin anche lui fa parte del coro della band. Andy è anche manager del gruppo e non ha mai scritto canzoni.

His role is also that of lead vocal and chorister. He plays the keyboard and the guitar.
In 1977, at the age of sixteen, he dropped out of school, despite getting excellent grades, to work as a bank employee. At school he studied French and German, which he speaks very well also because he lived in Germany in the 1980s.
Martin wrote most of the songs for Depeche mode, some of which he wrote when he was fourteen years old.
Andrew Fletcher was born on 8 July 1961 in Nottingham. He is also a keyboard player and like Martin he is also part of the band's choir. Andy is also the manager of the band and has never written any songs.
