Once Upon A Time

Once upon a time
There lived a prince
Whose castle stood in the heart of paradise
Sparkling streams, swaying trees
Singing birds gliding across the skies

Sturdy high walls
Warm sunshine engulfing the halls
Ecstasy painted over all
Not one cry of despair as far as I recall

Suddenly, a menacing wind howls
Trees bow as the earth scowls
The sky rumbles, the sea barks
Waves crash, thunder sparks

Battle cry pours through the once-paradise
The sound of marching troops intensifies
Unfazed, the little prince puts up a fierce fight
Steady on his galloping horse like a true knight

Yet victory doesn't fall
The foe stands tall
Weapons fly
Words cut deeper than knife

"The sun shall set, all remaining a melancholic silhouette
The flame shall dull
Each drop of existence shall dry
Death shall dominate your worthless being, no one to quiet down your agonized cry"

There lay the prince, battle stained
Scars mapping his body, all life drained
Clouds snatched away the light
As he whimpered into the night

Once upon a time
There lived a prince
Whose castle lay among eerie whispers
Through the lifeless forests,
Across the bottomless black rivers

Mighty cold grey walls
A single flickering lamp in those dark halls
Not one wandering soul does in these woods dart
But one might ask
If this was a castle or the little prince's heart?
