"Kyle please listen to me"
"Ellie. Get rid of the router or we're done"
She hesitated.
"That's all i needed to hear," and he closed the door in her face.
She found herself crying on the way home. She knew she had made the wrong decision but she couldn't bring herself to turn around and change it.
She pulled her phone out of her pocket.
"Hey loser" Lily's voice calmed Ellie down, but her voice still broke when she replied with
"Hi"
"Oh fuck Ellies crying oh shit oh fuck, hang on let me get Jamie"
She smiled at her friend's reaction as the bing signalled that Jamie was joining the call. She let out a sob as Jamie' familiar voice washed over her.
"Lily what the fuck did you do?"
"Hey! It wasnt me"
"Well then why is she crying"
"Ellie tell Jamie it wasnt me"
"It wasn't Lily, it's just-"
"See! Suck my dick Jamie"
Ellie laughed, which once again turned into sobs.
Jamie' voice softened "Ellie what's wrong"
And she told them everything, about how Kyle had demanded she throw out rou, and about how she had refused, though she wasn't sure why. They were both incredibly understanding, and told her she wasn't a complete idiot, even though she was adamant she was.
"Look, babe, in the end Kyle was asking you to do something you didn't want to do, it makes sense that you told him no"
"But it's a router, why am i so attached to it?"
"Because it's A HOT ROUTER"
"Lily shut up '' Jamie cut across her. "Ellie it's totally normal to feel attachment to something you spend a lot of time with, there's nothing wrong with you"
"Why does it feel like there is'' she sank against a wall, bringing her knees up to her chest. "I don't want to face either of them"
"Come and hang out with us," Lily said, sounding excited.
"Really?"
"Yeah of course, i'll make Jamie leave the house for you"
"You don't have to make me, i leave the house all the time" Jamie complained
"Jamie when was the last time you left the house?"
"Fuck you"
"Maybe later" she heard Jamie spluttering in reply, but Lily continued."So meet us at the park in thirty minutes?"
"Perfect"
They all disconnected from the call.
Forty five minutes later, Ellie was sitting on the grass waiting for Jamie and Lily to arrive. She sighed and called Jamie.
"Why the fuck are you fifteen minutes late?" she said as soon as he picked up.
"I'm sorry! Lily wasn't ready when i went to get her"
Suddenly Lily's voice could be heard over the call, "fuck off Jamie, the concept of time is unnecessary"
"You can't use that as an excuse to everything"
"Watch me"
Suddenly Ellie heard Lily shout "Ellie!" and she looked up to see her running towards her whilst Jamie looked on, smiling, but not breaking into a run ((he is not cool enough to run))
Lily threw herself down next to Ellie, "HI"
Ellie laughed at her eagerness, "hi"
"Are you doing okay?"
"No"
"Yeah that's wholly valid"
"I did the right thing... right?"
"Yes 100%, Kyle was way out of line, and besides how are you supposed to listen to Jamie' stupid voice without a router?"
"You make a good point"
"Hey!" said Jamie, finally catching up to them "my voice is incredible"
"If you say so"
He sat down between Lily and Ellie.
They avoided the topic of Kyle for a while, talking about their other friends and laughing at terrible jokes. Ellie felt normal for the first time in a week. She knew she was lucky to have friends like this
"What're you going to do about Rou then?" Jamie asked, once the conversation ended back at Ellie's predicament.
"Shag him," Lily offered, unhelpfully. Jamie threw his water bottle at her, it hit her.
"Fuck you" she complained
"Later"
Ellie laughed
"Do whatever you think is right," Jamie supplied.
"I dont know whats right"
"So shag him" Lily offered again, still unhelpfully. Jamie threw his phone at her. She caught it.
"Did you just throw your fukcing phone at me?"
"I didn't have anything else to throw"
"What's your password?"
"Fuck off, give it back"
"No"
"hello! " Ellie interrupted "my problem has still not been solved?"
"No but, i have Jamie's phone, which gives me ultimate power"
"Give me my phone back"
"Fuck off"
"I swear to god-"
"What's your password jamie?"
"Fuck you"
"I'll let you if you tell me your password"
"5981" he said, without hesitation.
She typed it in, "Oh shit it worked" Lily immediately ran off, with full access to Jamie' phone. Ellie laughed but turned to Jamie.
"Seriously, what do you think i should do?"
"Ellie, honestly, i have no idea"
She groaned, knowing that she knew this would be his answer.
"Lily" Ellie shouted, calling her friend back over "please help me"
"Ell, darling, i don't know how else we can help" Lily sounded worried for Ellie, and Ellie knew she wished she could help more
"Wow busting out the pet name, it must be serious" Jamie quipped
"Jealous jamie?" she teased
"Oh my god you guys are so incredibly unhelpful"
"True. However i can tell you that i looked through Jamie' search history and will tell you later"
Jamie swore "i didn't realise you could do that"
"Ahh, one must always take a blackmail opportunity when one is offered it"
"I hate you"
"No you dont"
Ellie smiled but still looked upset.
Lily smiled suddenly, "wanna get KFC?"
"Fuck yes"
