A Legend's Birth and Lost Kingdom

Start from the beginning

"What is that Ada? " Therina asked timidly.

"That, my little lass, is a dragon; Smaug! He has come for the gold in the mountain." Thailon explained. Therina's gaze turned back to the burning city, only to find Smaug speed-flying toward the mountain. Her eyes widened as he smashed through the front gate with a loud boom! Smoke began to billow out in giant clouds of ash. And with the smoke, came the dwarves of Erebor! Running and shouting could be heard by everyone's ears as they watched the once mighty people be brought low. Theila gasped and abruptly stood when she saw how many injured there were. She turned to her mate and pleaded with him to let her go help.

"Theila, my love, it will be very dangerous and if something were to happen to you-...." Thailon was quickly interrupted.

"I'm aware of the risk but the elves have turned their back and if no one will help....I can't let that happen, amralime!" She cried with despair and compassion clear in her voice. Thailon was confused by what she said of the elves but turned to his right and a frown confronted his handsome features. There on a hill, stood the Elven King, Thranduil of Mirkwood. He was watching the dwarves as they begged for aid. But King Thranduil then turned and left without a second glance at the pitiful people. Thailon's frown turned to an angry expression and he sighed deeply, trying to suppress his sorrowful rage. He turned to Theila and nodded his approval.

"Very well, we will all go and try to help as much as we can. Theodren?"

"Yes, Adad. I will look after my sisters with my life; I promise you. " the young man vowed.

"Good lad! " Thailon smiled at his son. Theila entwined her hand with her husband's as they shifted and began to run toward Dale; their three children in tow.

They reached Dale within 10 minutes and Theila immediately started healing anyone she could while her mate helped the men move and set up beds, and her children brought blankets and water. Just then, a dwarf man with a dirt covered face and sandy hair came running through the mass of people, yelling for a healer. He laid eyes on Theila and rushed over to her.

"Please! I need help! My wife is expecting and if someone does not help, we might lose the baby! Plea-" He was cut off with one word.

"Where?"

He grabbed her wrist gently and pulled her into the crowds of dwarves and men.

"Thrain!" He called to a short salt and pepper haired dwarf with only one eye and multiple tattoos.

" I have brought help! How is she? " he asked earnestly. The tattooed dwarf looked skeptical but nodded to the tent behind him and stepped back. Theila cautiously walked inside and found three dwarves, two dark haired and one blonde who were all clearly related to each other. She quickly rushed to the dwarrowdam's side and felt her head with the back of her hand. One of the male dwarves began to question Theila's intentions.

"Who are you?" The dark haired male asked with concern. Theila was about to answer but the dwarf man from earlier burst into the tent.

"Thorin, it's okay. She's here to help, Miss er...." he paused.

"Theila, at your service. She squeaked in. Now, would all leave but you, Mr.-"

"Vili, name's Vili, Ma'am. And these are my brothers-in-law Thorin and Frerin. This is my wife, Dis. " he introduced.

"Pleasure to meet you, now please, would you two kindly step outside. Now Vi-" she was interrupted by Dis's sudden cry of pain and she quickly shooed the brothers out.

"Vili, I need you to hold her hand. Now Dis, just breathe, alright? Easy now...." she cooed softly.

Meanwhile....

Therina was becoming tired very quickly. The wounded were so many and she only had so much strength and endurance at her young age. She spotted her sister cradling a young babe, while the mother tended the father. She half-walked half-limped over to them.

"Therisa!" She called hoarsely. Her little sister looked up and only then could Therina see the tears that were streaming down Therisa's face.

"It's so awful, Therina! Why did this have to happen?!" She choked, her voice breaking in the end. Therina wasted no time in wrapping her short arms around her baby sister, carefully though, being mindful of the baby still in her arms.

"Therisa! Therina! " the sound of their brother carried over the cries of wounded and children alike. He paused looking at his baby sisters' faces before he grimaced and put his lean arms around both of them, still mindful of the dwarven child.

*****back to Dis, Vili and Theila *********

The dwarven woman panted out of breath but beamed over her newborn son.

"Congratulations, men merag! " Theila sighed happily. Vili looked shocked that this woman spoke Khuzdul but with her stature she could easily be mistaken for a beardless dwarf, so he merely nodded gratefully. As the rest of the happy family flooded in to see the newcomer, Theila slowly backed up toward the door. Just as she turned, she caught the family's conversation.

"What's his name, namad? " Frerin asked curiously. Theila had left but not before her keen hearing picked out the last sentence.

"Fili, Fili Durin!" Theila smiled to herself as she went to find her own ebel'gasur. The sun set as night fell and the homeless men and dwarves settled down to rest. Though one little mind was racing a million miles a minute. 'What would the dwarves do now.... what would her family do now? Would they stay or leave to find a safer place? But where.... where would they go? '

Therina fell asleep dreaming of dragons and dwarves.
