My name is Ashley, and I am NOT going to be the Dark Moon pack Luna.

Being the Alphas mate is no fun. I mean sure, you get control of the pack money and you get to wear pretty dresses every once in a while, but most of the time it's just work, work, work. Sorting out squabbles between males over females, sorting out squabbles between females over males, taking care of the pack, making sure the pups aren't getting abused, making sure the pack money is spent wisely...UGH.

Besides, Alpha Xander is the WORST. He's your typical pretty-boy Alpha who is far too aggressive and overprotective. I mean, don't get me wrong, he's a great pack leader, but he'd make a lousy mate. If he picks me at the Mating Ceremony, I'm turning him down. I've already picked my mate.

"But you'd be the perfect Luna!" My best friend Lila groaned as we talked the day before the Mating Ceremony. "You're smart, you're pretty, you're confident, plus you've had the training."

I rolled my eyes. As a human, I'm stunning. Long, wavy, silver hair and sharp green eyes set off my milky, flawless complexion. In my wolf form I'm just as stunning with my sparkly silver fur. This has meant that ever since I was a pup people have been slipping me little extra lessons, preparing me to be the Luna.

Nope. Nope. NOPE.

"I just don't understand why you've picked TREVOR of all people to be your mate. He's old, he's ugly, and he's next to useless in battle." Lila continued as we walked through the estate where the pack lived.

"That's not entirely true. He DID save my fathers life in battle." I pointed out. Okay, so Trevor is a bit overweight, and 30 years older than me (I'm 21),and is missing an eye, and can't control his hair, and his wolf looks terrifying...but I've known Trevor my whole life. He's always very kind to everyone, and he's always looked out for me. Plus, no one has ever picked him at the Mating Ceremony, so I feel a bit bad for him.

"You're a strange one Ashley." Lila sighed as we got to my family home.

"Takes one to know one." I grinned back. I looked at the house. It was very nice, with three small rooms and a large living area. We didn't need a kitchen, as the pack always ate together. "It's hard to believe I won't be living here after tomorrow."

"I know I'll still be living at home." Lila sighed. "No one will pick me."

"That's not true!" I protested. Lila is beautiful too, with dark hair and dark eyes and tanned skin. "You just have to believe in yourself. I do!"

"Believe in yourself or believe in me?" Lila joked back. I punched her arm and she punched mine back.

"What if we get picked by wolves from other packs?" Lila suddenly began to worry as we sat down in my room. "I don't want to leave the pack!"

"You. Will. Be. FINE!" I bonked her on the head with my pillow. "What's the point of worrying anyway? You can't stop tomorrow!"

"Tomorrow never comes." Lila pointed out.

"You PAIN!" I threw the pillow at her, which naturally started a pillow fight. Deep down, I wondered if we would ever have a pillow fight ever again.

Soon, Lila went home and I went out into the living area, where my little brother Andy and his adorable little friends were playing in their wolf forms.

"Aww, look at the little puppers!" I picked my brother up. He only started shifting to his wolf form five years ago when he was six, and his little wolf form is so cute. He's silver, like me, but his belly is pure white.

The wolf cub in my hands started squirming, trying to get free. Andy can't control his shifting well yet, which makes antagonizing him easy.

"Put your brother down Ash, you're embarrassing him." My father Alexander walked in .I quickly put Andy down where he shifted back into his human form, his skin-tight shorts barely surviving his sloppy transformation. My brother looks just like me, and he's going to break hearts when he gets to my age.
