The next day felt eerie and very tempestuous. It was cold for a day in June. No birds chirped, it was quiet and felt as if the day itself was tense.
Erik arose out of bed still wearing the same clothes from the day before. He walked to the mirror, put his glasses on, and took a look at his left hand the cuts smeared with dry blood."Maybe today will be different." He thought hopefully remembering that it was his birthday. But that thought disappeared the moment he heard a crash from the kitchen
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU DROPPED MY BREAKFAST!"
James's voice boomed through the entire house. Erik entered the kitchen to see a mess of food and glass, his mother was on the floor, and James lurching over her with clenched fists. "What do you think you're doing." Erik shouted, "YOU WON'T TAKE THAT TONE OF VOICE WITH ME YOU LITTLE DISRESPECTFUL SHIT!" James then proceeded to approach Erik and in defense Erik punched James in the face. "YOU NEED TO LEARN YOUR PLACE YOU LITTLE FAIRY!" James shouted not even flinching from the blow to his cheek.
James hit Erik in the face in retaliation not holding anything back. Erik's Mom tried to intervene but couldn't move her legs frozen by fear of what James could do and how she couldn't stop it. Erik tried to dodge but was too dazed from the first hit. After three punches Erik's glasses shattered into his face causing him to go straight to the floor. James got down into Erik's face "NO WONDER YOUR REAL DAD LEFT!" James said with a smirk. Erik took a second to steady his breathing and Then, Erik let out the most crooked smile James had ever seen as he proceeded to shatter a nearby Pyrex pan across James's head. James stumbled back and screamed. Erik got up only to see Bubba with a baseball bat. Bubba hit Erik in the chest knocking the wind out of him. The last thing Erik saw was James swing a cast iron skillet into his face breaking his nose and busting his lips open instantly. And with a loud thud, Erik was knocked out only able to listen to the sound of his mother's screams in protest.
