You were a mess and you hated yourself for it but before you could loathe in your pain anymore the car came to a halt and you were home. "Y/n we're here," she said sweetly before she got out of the car and walked to your side.

You opened the door and hopped out before Emily met you and gave you another hug. Her arms completely took you in again as she spoke up, "I'll walk you to the door, I can stay if you want." She said caringly. Emily just wanted to make sure you were okay.

"No em, it's okay, I feel bad enough calling you at 4 in the morning. we have to be at work in like three hours. I won't do that to you." you shook your head before you gave her another hug and turned around to unlock the front door.

"I love you. thank you for picking me up," you said when you opened the door. "I love you too, listen, I am always here to talk. There is nothing you have to hide from me, okay?" Was the last thing she said before you nodded and closed the door.

You heard the door click as you pressed your back against it and slid down the wall to sit on the floor. You couldn't move, you didn't want to move, thoughts of your childhood plagued your head.

We don't love you, nobody will give you the care that we did to make you as best as you can, you will get nowhere in life without us.

Do you understand how much money we wasted on you to send you to Private schools? We destined you for a great life and you are wasting it on the FBI for fucks sake.

You have never been anything but useless. Look at how your sister turned out. She became a lawyer, she made our money worth it, she is who you should be like, not some government worker making shit wages.

You involuntarily pulled your hand to your cheek as memories of a familiar sting plagued your face where your father's hand frequented when he was angry.

All you could think about was how much you built your life up after breaking all connections with your family and you were just going to throw it away by sleeping with your boss. But something about yourself was so drawn to him that you couldn't help but want him more.

It was like every right decision that kept you in line and made you the perfect agent was being torn away, and yet you did not care, all you wanted was sex with him.

Friends with benefits you thought to yourself.

When the words stopped playing through your head you got up and saw a pile of mail that was sitting on your dining room table and a card peeked through that looked all too familiar.

You dug through the pile and pulled out the card. The manilla color on the square envelope with the fine handwritten calligraphy on the front was enough for you to know what it was.

"Miss Y/F/N Y/M/N Y/L/N, 1834 Dresden street, Chevy Chase, Maryland." Your fingers ran over the words as tears of anger streamed down your face. When you flipped the card over the point of the envelope had been sealed in blue and gold wax with the family crest stamped into it.

You left and cut all ties with your family four years ago when you finally got a job at the BAU. They were completely unsupportive of you joining and thought you would become a piece of shit person. The abuse that you received as a child was enough for you to leave but the breaking point was when they called you scum of the earth.

Despite your ties being cut, it looked bad on a famous Lawyer's family to have a child that has been excommunicated from the family so they invited you to their spring formal gala in the hopes that they can get a family photo to save their name.

When you opened the card all it was a beautiful invite that was the same each time. You are invited with a plus one. They always sent the invitations in late December around Christmas because there is no RSVP. It is invite-only and those who were invited always attend, except you.

You did the same thing to the invite that you had done every year, you left it on the table with the rest of the junk mail, with no intentions to go. Your anger increased as you finished reading the invite.

It was like every year's worth of anger that you held in from your parents was all coming out tonight.

You walked across the room to a bookshelf filled with picture frames and books. Most of your photos were with the BAU, your college friends, and you had quite a few with your sister.

No matter how hard your parents pit you guys against each other, the care you held close always outshined the pain.

You scanned your eyes all over the bookshelf to find the one photo that you knew was in there. It was dusty and hidden well. The photo gave you hope that your parents actually loved you still, not just fake love through Christmas cards and gala invites that you still received every year.

You grabbed the picture frame and scanned it for a second. It was of your family at your graduation from Georgetown. It was the only photo that you had of your parents and you before you left. You held it in your hand before a wave of anger took over your mind.

You gripped the photo tightly as you slammed it on the floor, dropping it from your hands. You were done. You refused to let them control you anymore. The glass of the photo shattered all over the floor and you just left it there

It felt freeing

You walked around the glass and walked up the stairs into your room before you checked your phone. 5:30 the time said and you sighed and fell into your bed again.

You closed your eyes and prayed that you could sleep for the hour and a half that you had before your work alarm went off. Normally you and the team would have the day off after but JJ informed you that you would get a call in the morning about a new case.

You felt your eyes get heavy and you let them fall closed, Your body relaxed and you felt yourself fall asleep. You were out like a light.
