Three things you should never break: Promises, Trust, and Someone's heart. But little did I know he was going to break all three...

Isadora POV :

I knew everything he said were empty promises and that he held ulterior motives behind every step and every word. But why couldn't I find it in myself to leave? I didn't even have the answer to my own question only, theories, maybe it was that subtle attraction that made me feel drawn to him. Maybe even because his very existence was my type from looks to personality.  Though looking back now it might've all been a facade to make me trust him.

I awoke almost instantly to a pungent smell mixed with a pinch of sickening sweetness that made me a bit nauseous. The breeze that spread the smell throughout my room reminded me that I had forgotten to close my window after I snuck back in last night. Surely my mom had noticed by now. Speaking of my mom she'd usually wake me up at daybreak every morning but, it was now noon. Though unlikely, maybe she'd just forgotten. I finally found the strength to drag myself out of bed and headed through the corridor that led to the kitchen. That rancid smell got stronger and stronger as I walked forward. Perhaps mom had burned some food while cooking breakfast and had left my window open to let the smell out.

"MOMMMM!" I called out, but got no reply in response.

I stopped by the bathroom and grabbed a washcloth to cover my nose with as the smell was now giving me a migraine. I then continued my journey down the hallway.  ARGH! I jumped back onto one foot to identify the cause of this sudden pain. I had stepped on a Lego, darn my little brother! I reached towards the wall to steady myself but felt a strange substance, I smelled kinda metallic and I used my hands and it moved like water-down pudding. This feeling woke me up completely and made me come to my senses, I then pulled out my phone and turned on my flashlight only to see a splatter of opaque red fluids on the off-white colored wall. Assuming it was blood I dashed into the kitchen hoping it wasn't what I had thought it was.

I reached the kitchen and a look of panic spread on my face as I looked at the gruesome image that stood before me. My mother's decapitated head hung on the wall with a bloody axe, but she was missing one eye... Our usually white and modern kitchen was now splattered with my mother's blood. The tile floor was soaked, limbs everywhere... she had been chopped into pieces. Questions swarmed my mind as I counted one..two...three...four arms? That couldn't have been right, I looked a bit closer and realized that two seemed a bit too short to be my moms. That struck me as odd, I tried to continue searching the blood splattered kitchen. In a cabinet I found the rest of my mom's body limbs, the missing eye still nowhere to be found. Eventually, I decided to search the pantry... I took a deep breath as a prepared myself for the worst.

I slowly opened the doors to the pantry and jerked back a bit at the dreadful sight. I had barely realized what -better yet who- I was looking at, it was my little brother. His face was disembodied and he had a bloodied mouth full of Legos. I began to  close my brother's eyes but paused and remembered it could potentially be used as evidence. I had been sleeping peacefully unaware of how my family was suffering, My blood boiled at the thought. I let out a bloodcurdling scream expressing all of my emotions...Knowing that I could only blame myself.

•••

The neighbors must've heard the scream because in about 11 minutes the police were banging on the door. I slowly got up and went to answer the door, "Officer Walker from the department of Homeland Protection Investigation, I'm here because of a noise complaint from one of your neighbors" he said while holding up his badge. I saw his eyes slowly widen as he saw the bloodied kitchen behind me. He then radioed to the department and called for investigators, it had only been 10 minutes but it felt like an eternity had passed as we waited for the investigation team to show up. When they arrived the team started marking with yellow tape making it a crime scene and started taking pictures for evidence. Officer Walker introduced me to Detective Miller and he began asking me a series of questions about what had went gone.

"Who were the victims and what relationship did you have with them?"

"My mom Lucia and my little brother Jace" I replied swallowing my tears

"Where were you when it happened?"

"I was in bed sleeping..." I answered, internally laughing at how suspicious that seemed.

Detective Miller continued asking questions like that until the rest of his team came out with the evidence they had found. The detective went to his team to gather information and throughout the conversation I overheard the words 'homicide survivor' I guess they were talking about me. When the detective walked back towards me he said the suspect had used blood to engrave the initials 'A.K.' on the wall and that under further inspection the axe that hung my mom seemed to be the same one from other homicide cases. The only possible explanation was that it had to have been the same suspect, an up-and-coming serial killer that they called 'A.K. The Executioner'.
