Dear Emma,

I don’t really know who to blame for your death. Was it me, or Audrey? Did we do something to make you leave the way you did? Or was it just chance, and you just happened to be unlucky?

All these years I haven’t known what to think about you dying. I guess, deep down, I was still hoping you were alive. I still don’t really know where you are.

Okay, whatever. I just really miss you, that is all.

All the time when I watch the news, I hope they have a breakthrough in your case. I can’t wait for the day the headlines ring out: “Aussie Girl’s Body Found After Five Years,” or even better, “Aussie Girl Found Alive After Five Years.” I would catch a plane all the way back to Australia to see you, Emma, dead or alive. I would never wanna miss your funeral.

Did I tell you I’ve started writing, Emma? I think I’m kinda good at it, but no matter how much I write, it still feels weird writing these letters to you. I guess that’s because I usually write for an audience.

I suppose this time my “audience” will never see my writing.

I really miss you, Ems.

Love,

Nate.
