Pleading for Understanding
What's the last thing you remember?
The very last thing I said?
Do you remember the last time we spoke,
Or is communication dead?
Do you really think good parenting
Is all rules, lines and orders?
Do you think making decisions for me all the time
Is making me act older?
Okay, yeah, I understand,
You work and pay the bills.
But you can't say your a good parent
When old opinions linger still.
Maybe I've grown more mature,
Or the latter, maybe I've not.
But saying your the boss nonetheless
Isnt trusting me a lot.
But you gotta let me off my leash
To see how far I'll run.
I was raised good- or don't you trust yourself?
See the good job you've done?
I'm not a little kid any more.
And I wish I could tell you this;
But some things are mine to do,
And consequences are mine to deal with.
Bad friends and good grades
Arguments and messy closets,
I'm not a bad kid
I just with you saw it.
Isn't it time to see how I am?
Who I was and who I've become?
Is it time for you to accept
The everything you could, you've done?
Your job as my parent is almost over.
A few years and you're done with me.
don't ruin what's left with fences and chains
Because that's what will haunt me,
I wasn't good enough.
