chapter II - a drink

Y/N stared, star struck at the small green alien. Grogu's saucer like eyes syared back at Y/N, and after a few seconds cooed and held his tiny arms out to her, asking to be carried. "Hello there little guy." Y/N whispered out, fulfilling his wishes to be carried. As she cradled him in her arms, a rush of serotonin and dopamine put her in a state of true bliss. Grogu was truly and without a doubt adorable!

Y/N couldn't help but find Grogu held a similarity with a certain jedi master she had once heard her master, Luke, had trained under for a bit. She honestly would have mistook tiny Gorgu for him if it hadn't been for his... size and mannerisms. One thing she was sure of, was that they were of the same species. "Ahsoka Tano told me I'd be able to find you here." "Ahsoka Tano? Well I haven't heard that name in... quite some time."

Ahsoka Tano was a former padawan of Anakin Skywalker before he succumbed to the Dark Side. She and Y/N had met up a few times during the war, and would help Y/N and Rey with training at times. Y/N looked up to Ahsoka like a big sister, and in many ways a role model. She was just an amazing Jedi and strived to fight for what she believed was right, which was truly honorable in Y/N's eyes.

She hadn't seen Ahsoka since the war ended, and that was, as you know, around half a decade ago. Y/N spaced out a bit, reminiscing the moments she shared with Ahsoka. Although the war had snatched so many things she loved away from her, Y/N couldn't help but but grateful that it did happen; in a sense that if it never had, she would've never met all of the people she knew and loved now.

Y/N blinked, shooting Mando a small smile. "Sorry I just spaced out... Ahsoka Tano is like a big sister to me. And she's also a very skilled Jedi. Why'd she send you to look for me? I'm sure she would be a perfect candidate to handle whatever issue it is you have." Y/N cradled Grogu in her hands, smiling at each coo that escaped his mouth.

"As part of my creed, I have to protect and return any younglings back to their people. And as of the moment, I haven't been able to track down a living member of his..." Mando stared at Y/N and Grogu, the sight of the two of them being so close was heartwarming to him, and he couldn't help a small smile grace his lips under the helmet. They seemed so natural around each other as if they'd met before, yet no words of knowing each other beforehand were spoken between them. After a few thoughts Mando settled on the fact that maybe it was just Y/N's overall love for younglings. Something he seldom saw in his line of work, but was glad to now.

"To my knowledge, I don't think anyone has been able to track down his kind. I mean, not that I've heard of, at least." Mando's small smile transitioned to his lips parting, quite worried about what Y/N was saying to him now. Was she saying that-

"No I don't believe his kind are extinct. But they are mysterious people, to say the least. I've only known two other beings I believe are of Grogu's kind, and both were Jedi Masters. They were... amazing. And even that's quite an understatement. They contributed immensely to the Gaclactic Republic's Jedi Order. I've met one of them, Yoda, a few times." Y/N scratched behind one of Grogu's big ears, earning a laugh from him. She smiled before continuing her tale. "No one knows where their home plant is, or even what their species is called. And I think they prefer it that way."

"Then, what am I supposed to do with Grogu?" Mando couldn't keep Grogu with him forever. "My life isn't one for kids. I'm a bounty hunter. There's too many unnecessary risks and we'd be on the run a lot. I don't want him to be with a guy like me, Y/N it's too dangerous." Mando's voice became a gruff and breathy whisper toward the end of his sentence. Sensing that, Y/N looked at Mando. She shouldn't have been able to read his expression through his helmet, and she knew as a Mandalorian he would usually be stoic and cold, but at the moment Mando was like an open book to her. And she read every word of it.
