DISCLAIMER! This is technically based on a true story. It's a dream my secret scribe had! Enjoy!

It was a warm afternoon, and soft orange light flooded the lonely street, shining through the small, square windows. I sat in a chair, reading, and my neighbour and good friend, Stephanie sat in her own house's living room, humming the Lorax's soundtrack.
Suddenly, the peaceful atmosphere was shattered by a grunting noise outside. Curious, both of us peered out of our windows to witness a horrific sight.
A small boy, no older than 3 was being grabbed by a middle-aged man.
Terrified, I flung open the door, stepping onto the grassy lawn. Stephanie had also run out, staring at me. The man quickly rushed over to us, attempting to snatch us both. I hurriedly ducked out of the way, diving back into my house. Breathing heavily, I watched as he took off across the road to his giant mansion, not looking back. His house was horrible. It was a brightly coloured, mismatched thing, with odds and ends sticking out of it.
I dashed to my weird cable phone thing and dialled Stephanie's number, afraid to leave the safety of the room. Almost immediately, she picked up, voice trembling.
"What was that?!"
I responded, "I don't know! I- I think we should go get the kid???"
"Hell yeah! That man is freaky though."
I sighed. "True....I'm actually second-guessing this now."
I could practically hear Steph eyes roll.
"We'll get him. I'll even bring a bomb."
"NO."
We hung up, and I stepped onto the lawn. Stephanie shut her door behind her and met me at the beginning of the road. We started walking across the street, glancing in every direction.
Shortly, we reached the house, eyes peeled for any movement.
Doubt started to coarse through me. Could we really take on a fully grown psychopath?
The door was open, showing a pitch-black hallway, with crooked pictures hung at oddly grotesque angles, featuring faceless figures. I shivered. Stephanie mouthed, "C'mon." and headed down the hall, eyes focused on the darkness. Although every single piece of me begged to leave the room, I followed her. Funnily enough, the house had polished marble floors and a crystal chandelier illuminating the main room. "Huh." I murmured, admiring the light bouncing off of the tiles.
After creeping around, we heard the dull hum of a radio playing from a room.
The noise both startled and comforted me. Either way, it was better than the creepy silence.
Suddenly a gut-wrenching noise showed itself. Steady beats that quickened every second.
A disturbing melody.
"No, no, no!" Stephanie hissed, grabbing my arm and sprinting behind a large sofa. Clasping my hand over my mouth, we saw the man enter the room. Our vision went a little dark, obscuring what we could see beside us. He was hobbling slightly, grunting and fiddling with something in his hands. Stephanie almost laughed, but I was lucky enough to slap my hand across her mouth, shushing her. The neighbour stopped. His head slowly turned in our direction. My eyes began to tear up. I wanted to leave, and quickly.
Thankfully, after another second staring in our direction, he left the room, unamused. I let out a breath of relief.

We then proceeded up the creaking stairs. It was deadly quiet now. Thankfully, it wasn't that dark - the afternoon light was able to filter in through the blinds. Stephanie pointed out a large drawer compartment, fitted with two large drawers. We were about to inspect them when the melody returned.

Dun dun dun dun, dun dun dun dun.

I gasped. We had nowhere to hide. We're in an open hallway!! WHY?
Luckily, Stephanie whispered, "Quick!! IN the drawers!!!" At first I was confused, but my current fear outweighed that, and I clambered into the drawer.
Our vision was almost completely black.
The neighbour's grunts echoed through the hall. With Stephanie in the drawer below me, I started to pray.
Things didn't look good.
The neighbour had turned to the drawers.
He bent down and held his face to the crack of the opening. I scooted as far away as possible, shaking in terror.
He did the same to Stephanie's drawer, and backed away.
Phew.
Our vision cleared, and the melody quietened.
Waiting for him to leave, I shimmied back to the opening of the drawer, trying to get a look at him.
BAM!
