Chapter 32 - Time Bomb

MacKenzie's POV

"How could Vickie not know she killed two people?" Nora asks

"There was a time in Central City where not all meta attacks were public knowledge." Barry says

"Why not?" Nora asks I mean, people should know--"

"Former Mayor Bellows.....tried to keep certain things out of the media." Joe says. "Said he didn't want to create a panic. Turns out he had metas on the payroll. Didn't want the heat." His phone rings. "That's Cecile. I'll be right back. Hey." He answers the phone, leaving our group

"You were wrong, you know." Nora says

"About what?" Barry asks

"About Vickie not wanting to tell her family about her abilities." Nora says. "It's her choice not to tell them."

"I agree." I say

"Look, keeping a secret like that from her family is... It's dangerous." Barry says. "I mean, they might get hurt or worse."

"She's just trying to protect them." Nora says

"I get that, I do, but... I-I used to think that keeping secrets from people for their own good was a noble decision, that it would protect them." Barry says. "But when you do that, you just rob those people from making their own decisions. I even did it with you."

"Like when you didn't want to take me to your past." Nora says

"Mm-hmm." Barry says. "I didn't want you to see how painful things got for me as the Flash or how bad things got for your mom. But secrets are like walls, and...you can't really know someone with walls between you."

Nora winces, grabbing her head

"Ah!" Nora whimpers

"Nora?" I ask, trying to grab her as Barry walks forwards but Nora's eyes glow red

I stumble back into Barry who steadies me

Her eyes stop glowing red and she relaxes a little

"Hey. Are you okay?" Barry asks

"I must have connected to Grace's mind." Nora says. "She's coming. Grace is coming."

"You guys go." I tell Barry and Nora. "I'll be on comms."

Barry and Nora speed away and I go into the main party room and stand by the back wall out of the way

Barry and Nora speed in

"I don't see Cicada anywhere." Barry says. "Do you?"

"Negative." I say

"It's the Flash!" A girl yells. "Mom, you got Flash and XS cosplayers for the party?"

Barry and Nora share a look before looking back at me

"Turn around!" I tell them and they do. "Play along."

"Yes, I am the Flash!" barry exclaims. "And I love... Soccer, do you guys love soccer? Do you want to... Yeah, or... awesome! Come with me! Here, let's play some soccer over here. This way." All the kids follow Barry. "This way. Come on, come on, come on."

The kids and Barry go out of the main room

I join Nora

Vickie rushes over

"What's going on?" Vickie asks

"Cicada is coming here." I tell her

"What?" Vickie asks
