Chapter Six: No Meowing Anymore
Lottie's Point of View

"OH, I'M SORRY! DID YOU ACTUALLY EXPECT ME TO MOVE IN WITH YOU?!"

My eyes flew open. The early morning sunbeams were fighting to get through the small crack in my curtains of the bedroom window at Grimmauld Place. I began to drag myself around from my sleep as quickly as I could. My head was resting under George's forearm, who had now also began to stir, and I quietly slipped out from under his grasp and padded across my bedroom floor, pressing my ear against the door when I reached it,

"Alex, please, calm down!"

"CALM DOWN?! YOU ACTUALLY THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO--"

"Alex, Ver--"

"DON'T INTERRUPT ME WHEN I'M TALKING!"

"Just let me explain!"

"It is way too early for this." George's head rose from the pillow. I shushed him, and he fell back down on the bed,

"I AM NOT--"

"Alex! Alex, she isn't there anymore!"

"Bullshit!"

"Alex, I fired her months ago! Ages and ages ago!"

"Sure! I bet you did!"

"When you've been in the shop after training, have you ever seen her?!"

"What's that supposed to mean?!"

"It means you bloody well know you haven't seen her, and that's because she isn't there! I fired her the day Lottie got hired at Mungo's!"

"Why then?! Come on! Out with it!"

"I know I ... I looked like I was flirting with her. I was worried Lottie would tell you beca--"

"YOU WHAT?!"

"I wasn't! I wasn't doing--"

"I SWEAR, FREDERICK!"

"Alex! Alex, you gotta listen! You ... You gotta--"

"WHAT?!"

"I knew she was suspicious and I fired her right on the spot! I ran the register alone and it was terrible and--"

"SO WHAT, YOU FIRED HER BECAUSE LOT CAUGHT YOU?!"

"No, Alex! I fired her because I knew Lottie would get confused and I thought I'd lose you!"

"WELL, THAT'S A BIT LATE NOW, SUCKER!" I gasped and then bit down on my clenched fist. My vision was focused on the box in front of me and every other sense was on the conversation across the hall. I'd never felt as nauseous in my whole life,

"Alex, pl--"

"Nope! It's all come out now! Why would you have just fired a perfectly good employee like her?!"

"Because I love you, Alex!" Fred's voice rang out. I gasped again. There was a few seconds of silence,

"Nah, fuck off."

"I ... I do. Alex, I ... I bloody well love you." Silence resumed. My emotions were flying all over the room, I didn't know what to feel. This was insane, this was mental! Fred was insane! Everyone is insane! Oh my--,

"I ... I guess I knew that if i-it got back to you, you'd not give me a second before gutting me and burning my body in the back garden. I kinda ... Well, I panicked, it was the only thing I could think of to do. I thought ... I thought it and it felt fucking scary to me and ... I did the right bloody thing."
