Back To School

Jacob opened the door and we walked side by side on to the parking lot. I would have never guessed Jacob or Josh were robots and I wondered how many other people where robots. I probably should look up Sonic Robotics, as I didn’t really know much about the company. Their robots are so realistic, and really cute. I wondered if I could go on a date with Jacob, and I wondered if it would be worth it. He’s basically a machine, not a real person, but maybe dating him for a little bit woud be fun. He walked on my side, and I looked at him in his bathing suit. I put my hand on his arm. He looked at me.

“Is anything about you not realistic?” I said, and even his lips matched his totally realistic voice.

“Nothing” he said, “I even said to my employer that maybe they should hire a real lifeguard. I’m afraid I’ll malfunction, or simply maybe a real seventeen year old could use this job. I’m just another machine…”

As we walked up to the slide, I saw Josh running up to us. He looked up at us.

“Hey” I said to Josh, “This is Jacob…”

“Hi” he said.

“Hey” said Jacob.

“He’s a robot like you!” I said and Josh smirked.

Jacob went down to Josh’s level and put his arm over his leg. I already liked my two robots.

“So, Josh, is Jennifer your mom for the time being?” he said nicely.

“Yes” said Josh “Is she your girlfriend?”

Jacob laughed and I laughed and Josh smiled. I guess I could just say Christopher is my boyfriend, which wasn’t really true. He was a nice guy, though, and a real one too. Jacob though seemed really perfect. These Sonic Robots are really lovable really fast. Then Jacob looked up at me and I noticed his eyes were very realistic, and very pretty. He had deep green eyes.

“Jacob” I said, “What are your eyes made of?”

“Plexiglass” he said, “I know this makes my eyes look really realistic…”

Josh laughed and he ran ahead of us. Jacob walked and we both continued to walk.

“So, Jacob…” I said, “Maybe you and I could hang out sometime…”

“I don’t really leave the park much” said Jacob, honestly. “I probably won’t have much in common with you. I spend a couple months a year being a lifeguard and then I’m shut off and put into storage. I don’t have parents. I basically walk around in this bathing suit, save kids and am all around nice to humans…”

That didn’t sound too bad, I thought. I wondered how long a relationship with Jacob could last. I was just learning all this stuff about robots.

“I have a five year warranty” he said. “After five years, I’ll probably short circuit.”
