Her Reality in a Box

Cover your eyes

with the blanket of mistakes

That kept you warm for so long

Till the temporary adhesive wore off

and it tore at the seams

Such patchy work

For someone who said they had it all together

Such cold weather

For someone with a seemingly warm smile

Replace the barrier over your eyes with my hands

You always said I darkened the world

So let me help you just this once

In the only way I can

Let me cover your eyes

and diminish the pain

that I'll still tuck you in with at night

You found the consistent hurt so comforting

That's why you always held my body so close

I guess you hated change more than me sometimes

What's normality more than just a vessel to possess

So you can hold the uncontrollable

and learn to love the expected

Even if it's never what you wanted

Just something you've learned to survive with

Once it disappears you are nothing but a pretty creature

Trapped in a tiny box

That they all know how to handle and manipulate

That they all know where to find the manual on how to make you everything they need

Without freeing you

From your claustrophobic box

that you love too damn much because it's the only thing that ever held you

And never disappeared

I can't stand to take this small world from you

Because then you'll hate me

If I knock down a wall the monsters will crawl in

I know I'm just one too

but I know my limits and the reasons I hurt you

I know they wouldn't treat you the same

So let me cover your eyes so you won't find the truth in mine

I hate the way you always saw the best in me

You told me to say all the ways I'll hurt you so you can be prepared

My selfish self couldn't do that for you,

I just held you in my cold arms,

Placing your mistakes on my shoulders

As if it could ever compare to what I've done

I'm sorry for the box but I'll try to make it so beautiful

Just like you made me seem

We always dress up the ugliest of lies
