Chapter Five

It’s finally Sunday, I lay in my bed, eyes wide open.Bryan had left a couple hours ago to run some errands, I opted out deicing to stay home and mope. The weather is down with my emotions; the rain hits the windows loudly and drips down leaving water streaks on the glass. It was yesterday Bryan’s stepdad decided to pay us a visit, he yelled at Bryan and I both, saying we shouldn’t be lying so closely if Bryan has a girlfriend. He said he wouldn’t tell Lauren but didn’t want to see him sleeping round with this “dirty slut”.

Like I said, I'm emotional, that hurt a lot. Bryan yelled at him and said were only best friends but if he ever called me that again he would cut the deal off, which confused me a lot. However, when I mentioned it later he brushed me off and didn’t treat me as nice as he usually does. He came around later, by then though I was really pissed and didn’t want to have any involvement with him.

I hear a clatter downstairs, it echoes through the house interrupting me from my deep thoughts. I spot my metal bat I keep in the corner of the room, just in case, for moments like these.

“Who is it?” I call out. I get out the bed and grab my bat making my way downstairs. I creep down the steps I see someone move, I forget my stealth mode and bound down the steps, swinging at the character in the foyer I hit it right in the chest then again in the crotch. Two spots if it’s a guy or girl will hurt them the most.

“God damnnit!” I hear a familiar voice yelling crumpled on the floor, I flip him over.

“Kyle! Oh my god! I'm so sorry; I thought you were a robber! Oh god, are you okay?” I drop the bat and crouch down beside him; he grips his stomach and groin area.

“Oh I'm just peachy!”

“Let me get you another pack of peas,” I walk from the kitchen table chair where Kyle is sitting his legs propped up on another chair and get another bag of peas from the freezer I bring it back to him. He places it on his crotch wincing as it touches. I feel very guilty for hitting him.

“Here let’s check you’re chest out,” he tries to take off his shirt but it hurts him obviously, I jump to help him. I gently grab the hem of his shirt and lift it from his body; I unbutton the buttons on his collar, and slip it over his head. I see a very horrible purple bruise on his chest. I run my slim fingers over it, he winces.

“I'm fine don’t worry, it’ll heal.” He says trying so hard to take the pain.

“Its okay,” I whisper “Just close you’re eyes, okay?” I whisper and he does so, before I get to work I look at him, his eyes closed he looks very peaceful. I grab the swab and dip it in the rubbing alcohol, I tap his chest with it lightly he winces, I grab his hand and squeeze it while I apply the antiseptic.

Our faces are very close, I look deeply into his mystical eyes, I feel as if I reading a mystery by looking at him. We lean in closer and closer, his scent of aftershave and the smell of morning dew fill my nose. I'm captivated by his eyes, they draw me in, I can’t seem to look away.

“You’re a very beautiful girl.” He whispers, his voice husky and sexy sounding.

“Thank you, you don’t look so bad yourself.” We are almost lip locking but then I hear something.

“Jessica?” I hear my name and am in such a trance I don’t seem to even recognize the voice until I look up.Bryanis in the frame of the door leaning on the wall with a couple of plastic grocery bags in hand.

“Care to tell me what’s going on here?” he looks pissed, really pissed.

“Well Kyle came over and he came and the door was unlocked because you didn’t lock it after yourself! Anyway, he just wanted to say hey to both of us.” My words come out as if I am not even spacing in-between my words.

“Jessica that doesn’t explain why there’s a half naked man in my kitchen!”

“I hit him with a bat.” I say matter-of-factly. His expression lightens. “I was just cleaning the wounds; I kind of hit him twice.” I mutter in a small voice. Kyle stays quiet which is good,Bryanwould probably fight him.

“You don’t need to be that close to him and looking at each other like you’ve known and loved him all you’re life. I'm not an idiot probably would have turned into sex if I hadn’t showed up” He says the light expression disappearing. He drops the bags and walks off.

“I am so sorry.” Kyle says looking just as shocked as me.

“Its okay, he’ll get over it, sometimes he has his moments.”

“Let me know how it goes.” He hands me his phone for me to enter my number. I'm pretty sure that was only so he could get my number. I give it to him anyway, I’d need someone to talk to me, I knowBryanwont. I grab his shirt off the back of the chair and slip it over his head onto his body. He stands up wincing and opens his arms, like he read my mind.

“How’d you know?” I ask my voice muffled into his shirt, hugging his none hurt side.

“You just had that ‘I need a hug’ face.” He says releasing me; I smile like a five-year-old on Christmas morning as we make our way to the door.

“Text me, okay.” I whisper soBryandoesn’t happen to over hear.

“I will.” He whispers back getting the reason why I did in the first place.

“I don’t love you like I did yeterdayyyyy ayyy ayy ay ay” My Chemical Romance blares from the speakers in Bryan’s room as I let myself in. He’s on his bed throwing a ball at the ceiling and catching, throwing it and catching and so on. I sit on the end of the bed, he doesn’t acknowledge me. I press pause on his Mac desktop computer and take the ball from his hands.

“Stop avoiding this conversation.”

“What conversation!”Bryan snaps not looking me in the eye, tinkering with stuff of his nightstand.

“You’ve been acting weird since you’re dad came over.” I try to make eye contact but he won't have it.

“You don’t get it Jess, do you?” he chuckles but nothing about his tone is humorous, his voice sounds as if he hasn’t spoken in hours or just woke up.

“Get what Bryan? Get how you’re cheating with you’re girlfriend on me and get angry when I talk to other guys?! Or how you flirt with that dummy that doesn’t have anything going for her and is a waitress?”Bryanfinally looks at me, but his face has a hard expression and he isn’t happy, not happy at all.

“I didn’t flirt with her! And I'm not cheating it’s a long story.”

“LONG STORY!?” I yell furious for such a horrible excuse. “You call that a long story, when every time we do anything I have to deal with her and how much she loves you. She’s doesn’t stop talking about you when we talk, she’s so wrapped up in you and I have to listen to it all and pretend like there is nothing going on between us!”

“I'm sorry, I know you see how much I’ve changed since my father’s death, and now my step-father is just making everything confusing. My life goes according to his plan; I can't even make my own choices. If it were up to me I wouldn’t even be with her. But I can't put you’re life in danger.” I look up at him, confusion present on my face, what is he talking about?

“What?” my voice I quiet now and anxious.

“I can't talk about it, just forget I said anything.” He practically shoves me out the door. He slams it and locks it. I stand outside of the room confused.

What is going on!
