Nakaupo lang ako sa sofa, pinapanuod siya habang nililigpit ang pinagkainan ko. Wala namang wall para matakpan ang kusina niya, just the flooring. Yun na ang nagsisilbing divider niya.
“so what’s up with Henessey?” ako na ang bumasag sa katahimikan. Itinaas ko ang mga paa ko sofa at niyakap ko.
“may tinanong siya saakin. At sa tingin ko tama yung punto niya” sagot niya habang hinuhugasan ang pinggan na ginamit ko.
“anong tanong?”
“Curiosity killed the cat” natatawang sagot niya saakin.
“You’ve been saying that since last night, I’m starting to get irritated that I want to kill a cat. Literally” I said cynically while rolling my eyes.
“Don’t kill the cat. I’m enjoying” he laughed at his own joke while looking at me. He’s wearing a plain gray t-shirt which complementing his white skin and a short that perfectly looked fine with him.
“Or I’m going to kill the cat’s killer instead” I said glaring at him “And when I say it, I mean it”
“That’s a bad idea, Andrea. You’re like taking a drug without the doctor’s prescriptions. Troubles might chase you” he gave me a glass of water and a medicine for my now-low-fever. “But sometimes trusting is good too, drink your medicine”
“Well where’s the doctor’s prescriptions?” I teased and smiled wryly at him.
“Trust is, Andrea” he turned off the TV because no one is watching and the movie is so corny -.-
“Not all killers can kill” tumingin ako sakanya na ngayon ay nakangiti na.
“But can still cause you trouble” he said.
“Why? Will you bring me trouble?”
“Basically, I’m the killer and you’re the cat, I can give you one or more. It still depends on the situation”
“Is it about Henessey?” I asked in curiosity “is she mad at you? Errr did I---“
“Stop worrying about her. We’re both cool. We’re fine. Just, not so good.” He stood up and went to the kitchen. Pagbalik niya may dala na siyang ice cream. “Coffee Crumble” binigyan niya din ako.
“Sometimes being curious is not going to kill the cat. It is sometimes better and so to gain knowledge about the situation. Cats are intelligent and brave. They can kill too, Andie”
Kinain ko nalang yung ice cream ko nung matahimik kaming dalawa. Hindi sa lahat ng pagkakaton magbibigay ng problema ang pagiging curious. Ngayon ko lang napansin na wala ni isang picture ng magulang niya sa apartment niya. Kung sabagay apartment lang naman kasi. Sa bahay nga ni isang picture walang naka-display. To think na bahay siya.
“Henessey asked me something”
“so you will tell me now?”
“If you keep on interrupting, no” that made my lips shut and never uttered a single word. I ate my ice cream happily and waited for him to do the talking. He sighed twice, maybe thinking if he’ll tell me or not. I’m not pressuring him but I want him to tell me. Everything about Henessey. How he feels about her and what she asked to him. It’s still absurd that I’m interested. That girl is getting on my nerve. She’s not pretty at all. She does but not much, in my eyes maybe. She wore simple shirts, too naïve and gauche.
“tinanong niya ako kung” umiwas siya ng tingin sakin at saka bumulong
“ano?”
“tinanong niya ako kung” hindi niya maituloy tuloy ang sinasabi niya at nakakainis na.
“kung what?”
“kung g-gusto kita?” kinain na lang niya ang ice cream niya at hindi na tumingin saakin.
“tapos?” I asked
“what? Yun lang? wala kang reaction?”
“bakit? Kelangan ba meron?”
“kakaiba ka talaga”
“parang ikaw kakaiba ka din” I grinned, placing my ice cream on the couch. I’m half done with it; I just want to sit comfortably.
“hwag mo akong nginingitian ng ganyan Andrea, I’m a man. I might do something to you”
“Knowing you, you won’t. Knowing my past, you won’t” kinuha ko ulit yung ice cream ko saka ko ipinagpatuloy ang pagkain. “So anong sinagot mo sa tanong niya?”
“I answered her that I do like you” I laughed wickedly. “That I do adore your beauty and enjoyed your sense of humor”
“Really? You did? That’s quite a revelation” I’m still laughing. Iniisip ko palang ang naging reaction ni Henessey natatawa na ako. Or rather, natutuwa ako.
“may tinanong pa siya saakin”
“ano?”
“na kapag itinigil ba namin ang kalokohang realasyon namin, I’ll court you”
“and?”
“I said, I don’t know”
I licked my teaspoon. Ubos na yung ice cream ko kaya naman kinuha ko nalang yung nakalapag niyang ice cream sa sahig. Ako nalang uubos nito.
“so what about last night?” ayoko ng pag-usapan si Henessey. Wala na pala sila. Naalala ko lang ang sinabi ni Zydn kagabi.
“Last night? I was astounded. More or less, it was unexpected. And to tell the truth, I enjoyed it”
Naguluhan ako sa sinabi niya. Tinignan ko ang damit na nakasuot saakin. Malabo, alam niya ang nakaraan ko kaya hindi niya ako gagalawin, and besides yung kapitbahay niya ang nagbihis saakin.
“The ahm-whole show?” sabi niya ng walang kasiguraduhan.
“What show?”
“Us. Last night.” Nakita kong napalunok siya. Kinakabahan siguro.
“Wait! Kaya mo ba sinasabing curiosity killed the cat? Cause I might be in trouble?”
“oo. Baka pag nalaman mo---“
“Did I kiss you?” I asked him directly. Hindi siya sumagot so I assumed I’m right “in front of them?” I asked in a horrified tone.
“Yes. I’m sorry I took advantage”
“n-no no. I’m sorry. I---“
“Some took pictures and videos. I didn’t know. Nalaman ko lang kagabi. We were outside your school’s gymnasium. I thought no one will follow, I thought no one saw us, kissing. Napansin ko nalang nung may nagflash na camera. Before I can hit him, you actually hit the man’s face with your killer heel first. I’m sorry I was drunk last night too. And I’m glad that you called me and not wanting Zydn to send you home. I was relieved when you chose me instead of him. I don’t know. Maybe because I like you too.” My jaw dropped as he told me about the camera flashing and videos being taken! That’s embarrassing!
“goddamnit! Andie the videos and pictures! Hindi pwedeng kumalat yun. He’ll disown me.”
